"That's enough, this stuff isn't easy to digest." Mu Run sat steadily on horseback, eating while admiring the streets of the capital.
Shi Xuan led the horse and slowly walked forward.
People who knew Shi Xuan even greeted him.
Mu Run recalled that he came from a beggar background and had climbed up from the very bottom of society. What was even more remarkable was that he had not forgotten his roots.
"I'm looking for someone."
Looking for someone?
"Yes, he is my husband."
Shi Xuan dropped another portion of sweet rice cake he was holding onto the ground with a 'thud'.
Seeing the dusty glutinous rice cakes, Shi Xuan immediately cleaned them up and threw them on the roadside. "I'll go buy you another one."
Mu Run watched his retreating figure, which seemed to be fleeing in a panic, his expression gradually becoming hazy and unreadable.
...
Su Qi went to the market early in the morning to buy fish and meat, his face beaming with undisguised joy.
The fishmonger killed six of his freshest and fattest fish for him. "Brother Su Qi, with so many fish, are you preparing a feast?"
“My sister got married and is going back to her parents’ home,” Su Qi replied with a smile.
"Great news! Congratulations! By the way, I have some prawns here. Want to take some home? They're really fresh."
Why didn't you say so earlier? How much was it?
"There are only three pounds left, but I'll charge you two pounds."
"Okay, give them all to me."
Su's mother has almost fully recovered. Her complexion is rosy, her eyes are bright, and she looks several years younger.
She and Gong were busy cooking in the kitchen.
Su Shaoqian peered out from the doorway.
A horse-drawn carriage approached the gate of the Su family's residence.
Su Shaoqian looked at the coachman, his eyes suddenly lit up, and he ran towards the carriage.
"Uncle-in-law—"
Shi Xuan smiled and replied, "Has Shao Qian been waiting for us all this time?"
Su Shaoqian replied, "Yes, Father told me to wait here. Grandpa is at the Yan residence and will be back soon. Grandma and Mother are both busy in the kitchen preparing delicious food."
Mu Run stepped out of the carriage and jumped down, asking, "Where's your dad?"
"My father went to the market and hasn't come back yet." Su Shaoqian opened the gate with great perceptiveness, letting the carriage in.
Mu Run also helped push the door open.
"You've arrived." Everyone arrived as Su Qi carried large and small bags in his hands, with shop assistants behind him helping to deliver the goods.
Shi Xuan stepped forward to help.
Mu Run looked at the things in the waiter's hands; there were six fish alone. "Why did you buy so many? Can you finish them all?"
"Have you forgotten the rules? When you go back to your parents' home, you can't leave empty-handed. These are all for you to take with you."
"Huh?" Mu Run looked at Shi Xuan with a blank expression.
Shi Xuan laughed and said, "There is such a saying: a married daughter is a thief in her own family."
Mu Run: "..."
"Come in quickly, you are honored guests today, just sit and wait for the food and drinks." Su Qi invited them into the main room.
Of course, Mu Run couldn't just sit and wait to be fed and drunk, so she went to the kitchen to help out, and she also wanted to see how Su's mother was recovering.
Su's mother came out of the kitchen, holding a bunch of chives, ready to pick them. Just then, she saw Mu Run arrive.
"Mother, I'm back." Mu Run smiled affectionately. She wore a red, diagonally-fastened blouse embroidered with colorful cloud patterns. Upon closer inspection, one could see that each cloud pattern was adorned with tourmaline gemstones, demonstrating exquisite craftsmanship. Her lower body was adorned with a royal blue pleated skirt, with a skirt embroidered with the finest mutton-fat jade, which made her appear exceptionally gentle and graceful.
"Look at my little one, anyone who didn't know better would think she was some kind of noble lady." Mother Su said with a smile.
