Chapter Forty-Three: Takeout!

Zhang Shaozhong barely slept that night.

Not only was the sofa hurting him all over, but the two darlings on the bed, though no longer arguing loudly, were tormented by their silent struggle and the occasional creaking of the bed when they turned over, even more so than if they were actually arguing.

He drifted off to sleep just as dawn was breaking, but as soon as he closed his eyes, he was jolted awake by a strong feeling of hunger and a chilling, oppressive atmosphere.

He rubbed his eyes and sat up, only to find that Ling Qingxue was already awake, sitting upright in the only chair by the bed, her eyes closed as she regulated her breathing. Her face was still cold, but it was clear that she hadn't rested well.

On the bed, Ye Meier lay sprawled out, taking up almost three-quarters of the space. The "38th parallel" had long been kicked to some unknown corner by her. She was fast asleep and even smacked her lips.

Zhang Shaozhong sighed, carefully got up, feeling as if his body was falling apart.

He glanced at his phone; it was a little after eight in the morning.

"Um... Fairy, good morning... Are you hungry?"

He asked in a low voice, afraid of waking the witch who slept so freely.

Ling Qingxue slowly opened her eyes, glanced at him, and didn't say anything, but her abdomen made a very slight, untimely sound.

She immediately tensed up and turned her head away.

Okay, I understand.

Zhang Shaozhong rubbed his rumbling stomach, glanced at the empty refrigerator, and resignedly picked up his phone:

"I'll order some food; delivery will be quick."

"takeout?"

Ling Qingxue noticed the new word, her eyes asking a question.

"It means... having the prepared food delivered to your door."

As Zhang Shaozhong explained, he opened the food delivery app.

A dazzling array of food pictures popped up instantly, with tempting colors and exaggerated promotional slogans filling the screen.

Ling Qingxue's gaze was involuntarily drawn to the dishes, and when she saw the glistening, brightly colored food, her brows furrowed again:

"These dishes are too oily and brightly colored, with excessive heat in the body; I fear they are not beneficial to spiritual practice."

At this moment, Ye Meier was also awakened by their noise. She sat up with a yawn, stretched, and her beautiful curves were on full display.

She rubbed her eyes and leaned closer, her eyes lighting up when she saw the picture on Zhang Shaozhong's phone:

"Wow! So much delicious food! This bright red one looks good! And that golden-fried one is also nice!"

Hey kid, hurry up! I'm starving!

Looking at the two big shots with completely different tastes, Zhang Shaozhong felt like he was about to suffer from decision paralysis.

He asked cautiously:

"Then... shall we eat something... something light? Porridge? Steamed buns?"

He looked at Ling Qingxue.

"Hmph, ordinary porridge, bland and tasteless."

Before Ling Qingxue could speak, Ye Meier objected.

"Eat meat! We must eat meat! And it has to be spicy!"

Ling Qingxue said coldly:

"Spicy foods irritate the internal organs, which is a major taboo in cultivation." "What a load of rubbish! Eating to your heart's content is the right path!"

Night Enchantress retorted.

Zhang Shaozhong was at his wit's end. In the end, he compromised and ordered a bowl of congee with preserved egg and lean pork and a few light steamed buns (for Ling Qingxue).

I ordered another spicy hot pot and two servings of rice (for Ye Meier and myself), silently mourning my wallet.

Place order, make payment, wait.

Thirty minutes later, the doorbell rang.

Zhang Shaozhong ran to open the door and took the heavy bag from the deliveryman.

The rich aroma, a blend of various seasonings, instantly filled the small room.

Wow! It smells so good!

Night Enchantress, like a cat that has smelled fish, darted over instantly, her eyes gleaming as she stared at the bag.

Although Ling Qingxue remained seated, her nostrils twitched slightly, and her eyes involuntarily drifted toward the source of the fragrance.

Zhang Shaozhong placed the food on the small table and opened it.

The congee with preserved egg and lean pork looks pretty good, and the steamed buns are plump and white.

And that spicy hot pot is an even greater visual and olfactory feast!

The dish is made with a rich, red sauce, piled high with slices of meat, vegetables, and meatballs, steaming hot, and the spicy aroma hits your nose.

"Come on, come on, let's eat!"

Zhang Shaozhong pushed the porridge and steamed buns to Ling Qingxue, and then arranged the hot pot and rice.

Ye Meier couldn't wait to pick up disposable chopsticks, grab a large slice of meat covered in chili oil, and stuff it into her mouth.

"Hiss—ha! That feels great!"

She gasped from the spiciness, but her face was full of excitement, and her lips instantly turned red.

"That's great! It's even stronger than our Holy Church's fiery liquor!"

She was panting as she frantically shoveled rice into her mouth, her movements as fast as a starving ghost reincarnated.

Zhang Shaozhong was also starving, so he started eating heartily.

Looking at their "wild" eating habits and the bland porridge and buns in front of her, Ling Qingxue hesitated for a moment before scooping up a little porridge with a small spoon, blowing on it gently, and putting it into her mouth.

The porridge was cooked to a fairly smooth consistency, but she only took one bite before putting down her spoon and commenting:

"The rice grains are acceptable, but the cooking time is insufficient, and the spiritual energy... is completely absent."

Clearly, earthly food could not satisfy her taste buds and body, which were nourished by the divine delicacies of the Spirit Valley.

Her gaze involuntarily drifted to the bright red spicy hot pot, and especially when she saw Ye Meier eating with great relish, her throat seemed to move slightly.

Noticing her gaze, Ye Meier deliberately picked up a fish ball soaked in broth and waved it in front of her:

"Tsk tsk, what a hypocrite. Want some? Beg me!"

"Beg me and I'll let you have a taste!"

Ling Qingxue immediately looked away, expressionless, picked up a steamed bun, and took a small bite:
