Chapter Twenty-Two: The Law of "It's So Good!"

Zhang Shaozhong was both amused and exasperated looking at these two ancestors who could even bicker over washing their faces.

He rummaged through his backpack and pulled out a tissue that a fellow traveler had given him, handing it over:

"Wipe it off, this...it absorbs water, it's more convenient than using a handkerchief...uh, more convenient than wiping with your hands."

Ling Qingxue looked at the snow-white, soft tissue, hesitated for a moment, and then took one. She carefully dabbed the water droplets off her face, a hint of surprise flashing in her eyes. She seemed not to have expected this "ordinary thing" to be so soft and easy to use.

Ye Meier unceremoniously grabbed several bills, smeared them haphazardly on her face and neck, then crumpled them into a ball and tried to throw them away.

Don't litter!

Zhang Shaozhong and the other hikers shouted almost simultaneously.

Ye Meier froze, looking at them with a puzzled expression:

"Trash? What does that mean?"

Zhang Shaozhong quickly explained:

"It's... waste! You can't just dump it in the mountains and pollute the environment! You have to take it with you or put it in a designated... trash can!"

He pointed to the trash bag hanging in the side pocket of the backpacker's backpack.

Night Enchantress stared wide-eyed as if she had heard a fairy tale:

"This tattered piece of paper? You need to keep it specially? You people of later generations have way too many rules!"

Even so, she still reluctantly stuffed the crumpled paper into Zhang Shaozhong's hand.

"Take it! Too much trouble!"

After a short rest, the team set off again.

As darkness fell, the light in the forest grew dim.

A hiker turned on a powerful flashlight, and a bright beam of light instantly pierced the darkness.

"!!!"

Ling Qingxue and Ye Meier were startled again by the sudden appearance of the "magical artifact," and subconsciously took a half step back, watching the glowing thing warily.

"What is this thing? How can it emit such a bright light without requiring spiritual power to activate it?"

Ling Qingxue asked Zhang Shaozhong with surprise and doubt.

"A flashlight... is... a tool for lighting, containing batteries... uh, it's something that stores electrical energy..."

Zhang Shaozhong felt like he was becoming an encyclopedia.

Ye Meier stared at the flashlight, her eyes flickering, lost in thought. Suddenly, she beckoned to Zhang Shaozhong with her finger:

"Hey kid, show this... flashlight to your mother."

Zhang Shaozhong's heart skipped a beat, fearing that this powerful witch might want to study it and then dismantle it, so he quickly said:

"Well... the light can guide the way, but we can't just shine it randomly, otherwise the guy leading the way won't be able to see the road..."

"mean!"

Night Enchantress snorted in dissatisfaction, but still stared curiously at the beam of light.

Just then, a loud rustling sound came from the bushes nearby, as if some large animal had been startled by the flashlight beam and was running past quickly.

"What is that?"

The hikers tensed up and immediately shone their flashlights over the area, only to see a blurry black shadow dart into the depths of the dense forest.

"It might be a wild boar, everyone be careful and stay close together!" the team leader warned.

Ling Qingxue and Ye Meier instantly tensed up.

Normally, they could easily annihilate any wild boar demon with a flick of their fingers. But now…

Almost simultaneously, the two moved a small step closer to Zhang Shaozhong's position with remarkable coordination, forming an extremely awkward triangular defensive formation, their eyes scanning the dark jungle warily.

Zhang Shaozhong sensed the subtle tension coming from both sides, and he couldn't help but feel both amused and exasperated.

Well, these two big shots, who criticize everything and everyone, actually know to stick together when faced with potential danger!

The journey down the mountain is getting more and more "exciting".
