Having accepted the bet, the little dumpling picked up her bucket and shovel and went back to her old ways, spending her days digging and turning things upside down in the garden.
When passing by the burial place of the little bread that bravely sacrificed itself in the battle with the evil nanny, Chaochao stopped and prayed devoutly, asking it to grant her a stone that looked exactly like the little green one. If that couldn't be done, growing into a bread tree wouldn't be so bad either.
After strolling around the garden for an hour, Xiao Tuanzi didn't find Xiao Lü's twin siblings, but she did find a bunch of pretty and cute little stones, some shaped like fish scales, hearts, and moons. Of course, she also liked some stones that looked strange to most people, such as the ones that looked like car seats.
Every now and then, Chaochao would carry a few small stones and slowly walk to the glass window of Pei Yushen's room. Sometimes it would be a fallen flower or a straight branch... After carefully putting them down, Chaochao would brush the dust off her little hands and then excitedly continue her journey into the unexplored meadow.
What was once a spacious and open area outside the floor-to-ceiling windows is now filled with a row of unusual plants, trees, stones, and other objects.
The more I looked at the system, the more something seemed off.
That's strange, let me double-check.
If these things were arranged even more messily and haphazardly...
That's probably what you call a trendy funeral-style interior design.
Pei Yushen, sitting in the room, felt like he was raising a traveling frog that would send him small gifts regularly.
This time, the small gifts are no longer limited to inanimate objects that don't move.
Chaochao held a white Java sparrow in her hands, muttering to herself as she placed it under the glass window, gently stroking the feathers on the bird's head with her delicate pink fingers.
"Bye-bye, it's cool here, you can rest here for a bit~"
"I'm going to find Little Stone now, can you keep an eye on Brother Yu Shen for me?"
The Java sparrow lowered its head and nuzzled her fingers, giving a coquettish "chirp".
The little dumpling left reassured.
Pei Yu's deep black eyes met the equally black eyes of the Java sparrow. The two strangers stared at each other for ten seconds before coldly looking away.
The little bird hopped to the side and leisurely nibbled on the green leaves of the flower, occasionally glancing up at the boy opposite it, as if to say, "I'm watching you, don't try anything funny."
The fifth gift that was delivered ate the second gift.
Pei Yushen couldn't help but think of that particularly emotional bee, "..."
The Huo family certainly doesn't keep idle people around.
He looked up at the low grass in the distance, where only two small tufts of grass were visible, moving slowly. The two little balls swayed back and forth, sometimes high and sometimes low, like the pendulum of an old-fashioned clock.
The sun wasn't too strong today; instead, it was warm and comfortable. After circling around without finding anything, Chaochao lazily yawned, feeling a little sleepy.
His little head was fuzzy with thoughts.
She'll go look around the little fountain again, and if she doesn't find it, she'll... go home and get some sleep... then have a carton of peach milk, and then... then come back...
With her plan in mind, Chaochao forced herself to cheer up, took a deep breath, and shouted "Hey hoo!" twice to encourage herself. She was determined to find that person—
The system was utterly shocked:
"Ahhh, Chaochao, watch out ahead!!!"
...
Unconsciously following the two fluffy little tufts of hair, Pei Yu frowned and noticed that the little ball of fur hadn't moved for a long time, and the little tufts of hair that had disappeared hadn't reappeared.
Even if I found something before, I would squat down and look through it, which would only take five or six minutes.
The boy's dark eyes were fixed on that spot without blinking.
There wasn't a trace of wind or grass disturbing the green thicket.
Pei Yushen's gaze shifted downwards, landing on the hopping little Java sparrow.
The bird sensed the human's gaze, tilted its head and looked at him, seemingly only then realizing that it still had a task to complete, and hopped a few steps towards the glass window with its pink claws.
You should go see the person who brought you here.
Pei Yushen looked at the white bird and thought calmly to himself.
In the afternoon, this garden is usually deserted.
The aloof and taciturn boy lowered his gaze for a moment, then pressed the emergency call button on the bedside table.
Almost five seconds after pressing the button, the nanny hurriedly pushed open the door to the room.
Upon seeing the young man sitting calmly by the window, the nanny's anxious expression faltered slightly, and she stammered, "Young Master Pei, you are...?"
This was the first time Young Master Pei had rung the bell in recent days, and she thought something urgent or dangerous had happened.
As the nanny approached, Pei Yushen's emotionless voice stated, "The child in this family is over there."
The boy raised his pale, thin hand.
"Wh-what?"
The nanny didn't react for a moment, staring blankly in the direction the boy was pointing. All she could see were colorful flowers and green grass.
Pei Yushen seemed to be getting irritated, and his voice became colder and harder: "The child is there, it would be best to send someone to check on him."
Although his voice was indifferent and detached, what he said didn't seem to mean that.
Pei Yushen realized his mistake as soon as he finished speaking, his lips stiffened, and he said coldly, "You can leave now."
The nanny, whose mind had been blank, finally understood what he meant, and asked in a trembling voice with wide eyes, "You said Miss Chaochao is there? Has something happened?"
Pei Yushen stared at her with a cold expression and gloomy dark eyes, uttering no more words.
The nanny knew she had said something wrong as soon as she asked the question.
If Young Master Pei knew, would he still have let them investigate?
