Pure childlike innocence, pure and untamed spirit.
The delicate, exquisitely beautiful little dumpling looked up at me with its crescent-shaped almond-shaped eyes.
In the past, her younger siblings also saw her that way, following her around like little shadows even when they couldn't speak properly. But when she returned to her hometown, that heartfelt dependence was now overshadowed by hatred and indifference.
Before Yu Ning's eyes flashed those hypocritical faces from her past life, distorted, hysterical, reaching out hands to drag her back into the mire.
"Sister, you can come and eat here again next time!"
The little dumpling's soft voice suddenly pulled her back to reality; they had unknowingly reached the crossroads.
Chaochao put her mask back on and waved her little hand at her: "I'm going to find my daddy now. Be careful on your way, sister, and don't get scammed."
Yu Ning glanced at her: "Do you think I'm like you?"
Chaochao was not convinced and wanted to salvage her image.
"I was just fooled this time, I won't do it again next time."
She would never fall for the same trick twice!
Then they switch to a different scam, and still foolishly jump into the trap.
Looking at the little dumpling's confident demeanor, Yu Ning didn't say those words aloud to hurt the little dumpling's feelings.
She handed the bag she had been carrying to Chaochao, saying, "Here, this is for you."
"What's this?" Chaochao peered inside curiously, then pulled her head out abruptly, exclaiming in disbelief, "It's a little snowman pudding!"
"It has a two-day shelf life. You can put it in the refrigerator and eat it tomorrow." After Yu Ning finished speaking, she gently shook the bag hooked on her fingertip. "Take it, consider it a thank you for treating me to something delicious."
Chaochao's outstretched little hand was quickly withdrawn. "No, no, it was you who bought it, sister. You keep it and eat it."
"I bought it but suddenly didn't want to eat it anymore. It would be a waste if I didn't give it to you," Yu Ning casually remarked.
But what is being stated is the truth.
She doesn't like sweets; she bought them only to make up for the regret of wanting them but never being able to have them.
"Then I'll eat it!" Upon hearing that it would be wasteful, Chaochao quickly took the bag with her small, shrunken hands, her black agate eyes shining brightly. "I will definitely help my sister finish it!"
She assured Yu Ning.
The girl looked down at the little dumpling, then suddenly chuckled and took her hand out of her school uniform pocket to pat Chaochao's head.
Goodbye, little friend.
I guess we'll never see each other again.
