"What's all the noise about...?"
Yu Ning, whose head was throbbing from the noise, fluttered her eyelashes and slowly opened her eyes, only to be met with a blinding pure white.
She couldn't help but raise her hand to shield her eyes from the light shining on them.
As soon as her impatient voice fell, the noisy ward instantly became so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
Everyone stared in disbelief at the woman lying on the hospital bed, stretching as if nothing had happened.
Having been bedridden for six months, her body was still a bit stiff when she woke up. Yu Ning casually moved her joints and pressed a button to raise the bed a little.
After doing all this, she finally slowly raised her eyes to look at the group of men, women, and children who were standing dumbfounded at the foot of the bed, and gave an encouraging smile, "Why did you stop talking? Weren't we talking about how my inheritance should be distributed?"
An elderly woman with gray hair pointed tremblingly at Yu Ning's face. Her teeth had all fallen out, and her lips trembled. Her words were slurred and unclear. Her terrified expression was comparable to discovering that the person inside the coffin had suddenly come back to life just as it was about to be sealed in the funeral hall.
Almost everyone uses the same emoji.
There's no such thing as the unexpected joy of bumping into a relative who has been diagnosed as being in a vegetative state and suddenly waking up.
Yu Ning leaned against the headboard, her pale and thin face a truly small one, her thick, wavy hair falling in front of her hospital gown. She couldn't help but laugh as she looked at the various expressions on everyone's faces.
This sound finally and truly woke up the group of wooden chickens.
"Doctor... Doctor! Someone come quick! There's a zombie here!"
The plump and strong aunt immediately rushed out in fright.
A woman in a plaid shirt took a while to find her voice, "Xiao... Xiao Ning... you're awake?"
Yu Ning turned her head to look at her mother, her gaze distant as if she were a stranger. She smiled amicably and said, "Yes, when you said you wanted to use my inheritance to buy a house for Yu Jingkun."
Yu Jingkun is her younger brother; just hearing his name tells you how much her family dotes on this only boy of his generation.
The name Yu Ning was chosen simply because her mother loved to eat lemons when she was pregnant with her.
After saying that, the woman's eyes darted around nervously, "We were just worried you wouldn't wake up, so we thought we'd make plans early..."
Yu's mother still knew how to mince words and say polite things. Yu's father, who had never cared about her since she was born, was a man who had spent most of his life in the soil and the rest of his life feeding on her. After the initial shock, his dark face immediately showed a gloomy expression as if he were looking at an enemy.
He made no attempt to hide his dissatisfaction with Yu Ning waking up.
Because in his eyes she was already dead.
Having been accustomed to being a patriarchal figure in a feudal society, he felt that the life and death of his children should also be in his control.
"You don't wake up when you should, and you wake up when you shouldn't." He muttered under his breath, his face dark. "Now that you're awake, settle the bills for the past six months of care you and transfer them to us."
Upon hearing this, Yu Ning couldn't help but laugh, her fingers tracing the prominent scar on her abdomen. She smiled and said, "Fine, then show me the evidence of your daily care. You haven't only come two or three times in the past six months, have you?"
Mr. Yu glared at him, his eyes wide: "You..."
They can't produce any evidence. The whole family came from the village to gather in the ward today just to agree to let the media take some photos and make it look like a show.
"Then you'd better hurry up and hand over the alimony to me and your mother in one lump sum!"
It seems they won't give up until they get a piece of Yu Ning out of her.
The mechanical voice of 050 relentlessly reminded me in my mind:
"Host, time is limited, please hurry."
"It will be over soon."
Yu Ning answered it.
The aunt, who had just run out, finally dragged the attending physician back to the ward, shouting anxiously in a loud voice, "Doctor, please take a look! Isn't this just a final burst of energy before death?!"
What kind of family talks like that?
The doctor was initially shocked that a person in a vegetative state with only a one percent chance of waking up had actually woken up, while secretly thinking that this family really didn't know how to talk.
"Ms. Yu, let me examine you now—"
"Hold on."
Before the doctor could finish speaking, Yu Ning interrupted him, looking over politely and saying, "I'm sorry, we're in a bit of a rush. Doctor, could you please step back a little?"
Attending physician: "???"
It's alright; this isn't unusual among the requests he's heard from patients in his ten years in the profession.
Yu Ning threw off the covers and got out of bed. Because her limbs were still uncoordinated, she swayed as soon as she landed. The doctor instinctively reached out to help her, but Yu Ning waved him off.
"Doctor, please step back, don't hurt yourself."
Doctor: ...It feels like things are getting weirder and weirder.
Yu Ning walked step by step to her relatives, whose thoughts were written all over their faces. Her dark eyes grew colder and colder, and a meaningful smile appeared on her lips: "Fine, here you go."
The eyes of the entire Yu family lit up immediately.
The man was about to say that she was quite sensible, but before he could finish speaking, a stool came flying at him and smashed him to the ground!
"You fucking bastard..."
The profanities were cut short by a series of slaps, one on each side. "You old hag, did you ever support me?! Everything I ate, wore, and used for school was earned by harvesting crops for others! And you still have the nerve to ask me for alimony?!"
It's unclear whether it was because of her dying moments, but Yu Ning suddenly unleashed tremendous fighting power, slapping her father so hard that his cheeks swelled up like a pig's head in just two or three seconds.
Yu's mother, recovering from the sudden turn of events, screamed and was about to rush forward to grab Yu Ning's hair in anger. Yu Ning turned around at the sound and smiled slightly, "Don't rush, it's your turn now."
Then, dodging Yu's mother's scratches, he slapped her across the face.
Her cold, mocking gaze swept over the surroundings, and she suddenly remembered that her dear younger brother was still studying at an art school at this time, and that he had been admitted through a special exception by playing the victim and smearing his older sister Yu Ning.
She could tear up her acceptance letter, but her younger brother had to take out a loan to attend art school.
“That kid didn’t come…” Yu Ning clicked her tongue regretfully and said softly, “Since you love him so much, then you can suffer for him.”
Snap—
Then he decisively slapped Yu's mother, and the woman covered her face in disbelief and stumbled backward onto her aunt.
Mr. Yu's back ached from being hit by the stool so hard at first, and he writhed on the ground, howling in pain.
The other relatives gradually came to their senses and began to surround and attack Yu Ning, trying to pin her to the ground and take her down.
"I told you not to rush, you'll get your share."
Feeling an unprecedented surge of energy, Yu Ning knew exactly what was going on and smiled at her uncles and aunts as if nothing was wrong.
They thought capturing the frail Yu Ning would be an easy task, until they were all slapped once or twice in the chaos, and then they realized that they had been completely made a fool of.
Beating someone up is indeed the quickest way to vent your anger.
The commotion in the ward was so loud that a group of onlookers had already gathered at the door, eager to watch the spectacle.
Yu Ning's gaze swept indifferently over the reporters and media holding cameras at the door. Her chair wobbled slightly as she listened to the countdown from the 050 system in her mind. She looked at the bruised and battered crowd and sneered:
"Want my inheritance? Sorry, I only have ten thousand dollars in my account."
