Chapter 5 Little Dumplings Eat

Chaochao hasn't had dinner yet.

Huo Qin was always busy with official duties, so he usually just ate fruit for dinner.

He rubbed his temples.

It was his oversight.

There were no fresh ingredients in the refrigerator, only a bag of toast and a cabinet full of bottled water; it was so empty it looked like no one lived there.

Huo Qin opened the food delivery app and gestured for Chao Chao to choose something she wanted to eat.

"Are we really going to let Chaochao choose?"

She was surprised and cautiously confirmed, afraid that he would shake his head the next second.

"Um."

Huo Qin's gaze swept over the little face that was now beaming with excitement as it lay beside his legs.

The delivery arrived quickly; someone rang the doorbell just over ten minutes later.

Chaochao jumped up from the sofa in excitement.

"Here it comes!"

Before I could even get off the sofa, a large hand pressed down on my head.

"Don't move."

Huo Qin, who was standing next to him, stood up, his tone leaving no room for argument.

Chaochao had no choice but to sit in her seat and wait anxiously for him to return.

Huo Qin placed the takeout on the coffee table and turned around to see Chaochao staring intently at him, her eyes filled with longing.

Like a puppy eagerly waiting for its meal.

Huo Qin suppressed the barely perceptible smile at the corner of his mouth, a hint of interest rising in his heart.

"You can come over now."

Chaochao's eyes lit up, and she quickly ran over, frantically typing on the table.

"Hi McDonald's! My name is Chaochao~"

"Nice Rabbit!"

"Ta-da, it smells so good..."

She swallowed hard.

Chaochao had never eaten McDonald's, but she had seen her cousin often pester her uncle and aunt to buy hamburgers, fried chicken and fries.

Is it really that delicious? Chaochao has been wanting to try it, but—

"Uncle...aren't you going to eat?" She looked at Huo Qin, who had picked up the tablet again.

Huo Qin didn't look up, but simply gave a faint "hmm".

The system sensed that Chaochao was a little disappointed, so it quickly comforted her, "Baby, it's okay. Adults don't get hungry easily."

It knew that Chaochao wanted to share her happiness.

Fortunately, when she turned her gaze to McDonald's, her slight frustration vanished.

"Then I'll start eating."

Chaochao squinted her eyes happily.

It's so delicious!

In no time, most of the takeout orders on the coffee table had disappeared.

Huo Qin frowned when he saw Chaochao's round little belly.

Although it was a single-serving meal, it was still too much for the child.

He stopped Chaochao from trying to grab a small hand from one of the wings.

"You can't eat anymore."

Chaochao's face immediately deflated like a punctured balloon.

"Why...?"

She wasn't full yet.

Huo Qin's tone was completely flat: "Eating too much is not good."

Chaochao counted on her fingers.

Her aunt used to scold her often, saying that Chaochao ate too much and the family couldn't afford to feed her.

Huo Qin noticed that she was listless and pressed his thin lips together.

Just as I was about to make an exception and explain to her the dangers of overeating, the little dumpling withdrew her oily hand and obediently replied, "Okay, Chaochao won't eat anymore."

She frowned slightly: "What about the rest? Are we just going to waste it?"

Grandma taught Chaochao to cherish food, because farmers work very hard.

Huo Qin: "..."

“I’ll eat,” he said.

The gloomy mood came and went quickly. After hearing this, Chaochao's eyes lit up. "Can I feed Dad, uh, Uncle!"

"No need, go wash your hands."

Huo Qin glanced at her small, oily hands.

This bottom line cannot be crossed any further.

"Oh," she sighed regretfully.

So tonight, Mr. Huo, who never eats leftovers or fried food, surprisingly ate the fried chicken and fries left over by the children.

By the time everything was tidied up, it was already past eight o'clock and the night was deep.

Huo Qin was working on documents in his study when the door opened a crack—

She revealed a pair of small, blinking eyes.

Hochin put down his pen.

"What's up?"

Oops, we've been exposed!

Chaochao slowly pushed open the door. She stood at the doorway, her hair gently draped over her shoulders, and under the orange light, a soft sheen spread across the top of her head.

Her soft, sweet voice carried a hint of drowsiness.

The drowsy little dumpling forgot Huo Qin's warning from the night before.

Goodnight, Daddy~

"Get some rest early."

A strange emotion arose in Huo Qin's heart, but like a pebble thrown into a lake, it quickly subsided.

He didn't correct her for addressing him incorrectly, and responded expressionlessly.

His indifference, filtered through countless layers of lenses, appeared as loneliness in Chaochao's eyes.

Before going to bed, Chaochao would talk to her grandma a lot and tell her that she loved her very much.

However, she wasn't very familiar with her father yet. Chaochao was a little shy.

Will Dad be unhappy?

Chaochao rubbed her eyes and thought for a second.

Huo Qin had just signed a manuscript when he heard the sound of light footsteps.

He looked up, and the little dumpling ran to his feet.

The next second, she huffed and puffed as she pulled down his arm, forcing him to bend down and look at her.

He could have easily shaken off her little hand, but the thought only flashed through his mind. He was curious to know what the little one had to say, even though it would be pointless.

He's not a philanthropist; he's not so kind that he'd pick up stray cats from the street.

At this moment, the little guy tiptoed, got close to Huo Qin's cold and stern profile, and gave him a soft "smack" kiss.

Caught off guard, Huo Qin froze like a statue, all his hurtful words stuck in his throat.

He was kissed?

The soft, damp touch lingered on his cheek, and a look of astonishment appeared in his usually emotionless black eyes.

The system screamed: "Aaaaaaah!"

Will the main villain just throw the baby out?! Has the first step of the plan failed?!
