Chapter 39 A father on the left, a brother on the right

The distance between the Xie family and the Huo family was only a hundred meters. The two figures swayed slightly behind the green plants. A cold glint flashed in Xie Jingcheng's eyes. He silently protected the bouncy Chaochao, and the muscles in his arms tensed instantly, ready to strike.

But immediately, the muscles relaxed.

Those two are trying to get closer to the Huo family.

Xie Jingcheng seemed to be deep in thought.

Chaochao knocked on her own door, and Aunt Ning opened it.

She smiled and said, "Chaochao's back! And you are—"

Her gaze fell on the tall boy beside the little girl, and she asked hesitantly.

She dropped Chaochao off at the door in the morning and only saw a blurry figure, without being able to make out her face.

Chaochao: "He is Brother Jingcheng!"

Xie Jingcheng greeted Ning Ying, not enthusiastically but politely.

Aunt Ning smiled, but she had some doubts in her heart.

Although the boy in front of me was very good-looking, he didn't look very friendly.

At this moment, Huo Qin came out of the study and slowly descended the stairs.

The gaze, almost tangible, lingered for a moment on the conspicuous boy by the door, before becoming extremely gentle when it landed on Chaochao.

Huo Qin's thin lips curved into a cool smile. "I'm back for dinner on time."

Xie Jingcheng narrowed his phoenix eyes and stepped aside to block Chaochao, but to his surprise, the little dumpling beside him did not show the fear he had expected.

Instead, she flew into Huo Qin's arms like a fledgling bird returning to its nest, her little expression very serious, "Of course I have to come back to eat Auntie's cooking."

She rested her head on Huo Qin's neck, "Chao Chao misses her dad so much after being away for a little while."

She spoke with absolute certainty, as if to say that although she was physically in Xie's camp, her heart was in Huo's.

Huo Qin chuckled softly, but the slight displeasure in his heart was indeed soothed by the little guy's sweet words.

"Has Dad been busy all morning?"

She saw her father come out of the study.

“Hmm,” Huo Qin replied calmly.

Aunt Ning, who hadn't left yet, thought to herself, "That's not true at all. The master has been looking out the French windows for a long time this morning, and hasn't even looked at many documents."

“Dad,” Chaochao raised her head, “Brother Jingcheng can eat at our house, right? There’s no auntie at his house to cook for him.”

Now that we've brought everyone here, if we keep talking about this, the little guy will just act first and ask questions later.

They're getting bolder and bolder.

Huo Qin's gaze finally fell on Xie Jingcheng, the young man's eyes sharp as he met his gaze from afar.

Huo Qin knew that Chaochao would bring people back long before she knocked on the door.

The two bodyguards hired by the Huo family kept watch near the Xie family villa, keeping an eye on any movement inside. Xu Yizhou, who broke in midway, had no idea that he was almost stopped and almost wrapped up and sent away.

It was Chaochao's first time visiting a stranger's house, and she was worried.

Huo Qin could choose not to let her go.

But it was the little girl's first time going to her friend's house, and she was excited and happy all night.

She tossed and turned in bed at night, a sweet smile on her face.

It made it impossible for him to refuse.

Xie Jingcheng was stunned for a moment after seeing Chaochao's affectionate behavior towards men, especially the men's subconscious tenderness towards the little dumpling.

Now appearing completely normal, he said to Huo Qin, "Hello."

"Hmm." Huo Qin looked away. "Come in."

The boy's breathing eased almost imperceptibly, and his tense hands relaxed slightly.

Nestled in Huo Qin's arms, Chaochao's little face beamed with pride, "I wasn't lying, was I? Chaochao's dad is incredibly understanding!"

"Being reasonable and understanding" is a new idiom that the system taught Chaochao today. The system is very pleased that the baby can apply what he has learned. It's really great.

Although the object used is not entirely accurate...

Huo Qin straightened her slightly messy bangs, then suddenly narrowed his eyes, lifted her up by her armpits with both hands.

Caught off guard, Chaochao's little belly, which had been sucking in the air as she entered, suddenly gave way, and her round little belly popped out like jelly, trembling slightly in mid-air.

Chaochao's eyes widened.

Oops, we've been spotted!

Huo Qin stared at her lower abdomen, frowning, and asked, "How much did you eat?"

Chaochao firmly denied that she had eaten too much. She said very seriously, "There are little watermelons that are about to grow."

Huo Qin: "..."

Finally, the verdict came down: Chaochao, who ate too many snacks, would only be allowed to eat one bowl of rice for lunch.

This was undoubtedly a huge blow to Chaochao, who usually eats two bowls of rice a day; she would have felt wronged for a long time in the past.

But today was different. Chaochao quickly cheered up, so excited that every strand of her hair stood on end.

Because she wanted to have dinner with Brother Jingcheng!

So at the dinner table, after finishing the last grain of rice in her bowl, Chaochao started picking up her chopsticks and happily adding food to the two of them.

If she eats less, then Dad and Brother Jingcheng can eat more!

She became the busiest person at the dinner table, wielding her chopsticks with increasing skill.

The situation was that the rice on the two of them was piled up like a small mountain.

Often, just as they pick up a piece of meat and put it in their mouths, the next piece seamlessly joins the original small indentation.

When Xie Jingcheng wanted to refuse, he saw the little girl's wet eyes and silently swallowed his words, along with the shrimp that Chaochao had just picked up for him.

In contrast, despite the mountain of food in front of him, Huo Qin still chewed slowly and elegantly finished all the dishes.

Chaochao rested her head on her hands, watching them eat, a sweet smile on her soft little face.

Aunt Ning, who was passing by, saw the almost empty dishes on the table and exclaimed in surprise, "You ate it all?"

Chaochao: "Yes, yes, Auntie's cooking is so delicious!"

Xie Jingcheng, who was resting against the back of his chair with his stomach slightly protruding, was speechless.

However, it does taste quite good.

After lunch, Chaochao, feeling sleepy, went for her usual afternoon nap.

When Xie Jingcheng left the Huo family home, his stomach bulging, he was momentarily dazed.

Because things really turned out much better than he expected.

...

At night, Chaochao woke up in the middle of the night, touching her belly, her little eyebrows furrowed in worry.

Huo Qin finished processing the company documents and was about to lie down.

Then I heard the little girl ask a question, looking confused.

"Dad, how did you and Mom come to know me?"

"..." Huo Qin paused, then turned to the side and lifted the corner of the little dumpling's blanket. "Children don't need to know these things."

"But," Chaochao continued wistfully, "won't the little watermelon in my belly think of me as its mother?"

"But I'm not a watermelon either, sigh."

Huo Qin: "..."

"It won't produce baby watermelons, I guarantee it."

Why?

Huo Qin: "The Huo family only needs one silly kid."

Chaochao: "?"
