Pei Yushen took the crutches from the caregiver and used them to support his body. "I can only walk for a short while. I still need to continue rehabilitation and treatment."
He spoke in a calm tone, as if he were talking about the weather, without mentioning the fact that he rushed to the recording location, causing his knees to ache terribly and his palms to turn red from straining.
Hearing the news that Pei Yushen's condition was improving, Chaochao was overjoyed.
But she didn't forget to stand with her hands on her hips, her expression a mixture of dissatisfaction and self-admiration:
"Brother Yu Shen, you didn't even say you were there, but luckily I have sharp eyes and recognized you at a glance!"
Everyone silently looked at the strawberry milk she was holding.
After returning the borrowed work badge, Pei Yushen turned around, paused for a moment, then nodded and whispered in response:
"I'll tell you in advance next time."
Several staff members who had witnessed the accident scene exchanged glances discreetly.
The boy who staggered and fell on the grass with empty eyes back then was completely different from the person in front of him who quietly echoed Chaochao's childish words.
At this moment, Chaochao was introducing Pei Yushen to Hao Guoli's family who were walking behind her. When she saw the curious looks on the faces of the people looking at the boy, she knew that it was time for her to make her appearance.
Chaochao: "This is Brother Yushen!"
Hao Guoli greeted her with a smile: "You must be Chaochao's nightly phone call buddy, right?"
Chaochao was slightly surprised, but then nodded proudly and confidently: "Yes!"
Completely oblivious to the amused expressions of the staff around him.
It's common knowledge across the internet that Chaochao makes phone calls to one, two, three, four, five, six... people every night.
The boy in front of me had his eyelashes slightly lowered. He was still very young, and his handsome and delicate profile was particularly distinct in the shadows of the trees.
Even as he silently leaned on his cane, his straight nose and smooth jawline still drew frequent glances from several staff members—a face like that would probably have its picture torn down from the bulletin board if it were on campus.
As the group slowly moved out of the woods, he steadily supported himself with his cane, his pace not much slower than the others. Beside him, Chaochao, holding her beloved strawberry milk, walked and sipped it with a happy expression, her small steps sometimes fast and sometimes slow, always matching Pei Yushen's pace.
Lei Bao leaned closer curiously: "What happened to big brother's leg?"
"He was injured and is recovering."
Pei Yushen replied calmly, showing no sign of displeasure at being offended.
Lei Bao assumed that Chao Chao's older brother had accidentally broken a bone, and then encouraged him, "It takes a hundred days to recover from a broken bone, you'll be fine soon, big brother!"
Chaochao, who was focused on drinking her milk, turned her head and nodded approvingly at Leibao, the wise and capable member of the team.
The children's words were innocent and naive, yet full of goodwill.
Pei Yu paused for a moment, then said, "Thank you."
Then, he chatted casually with Leibao about their experience filming in the wild, but mainly focused on learning about Chaochao. When he heard some anecdotes about Chaochao that weren't captured on camera, he would smile faintly.
In the distance, three pairs of eyes silently watched a group of people slowly walking towards them.
How much longer until we arrive?
Yu Ning frowned, a hint of frustration lingering in her low voice.
Xie Jingcheng spoke concisely: "A little while longer."
“One question,” Yu Ci said indifferently, pushing aside the green leaves obscuring her view, “Why are we hiding here?”
“…”
The three people stood behind a large tree at the end of the path, and an eerie silence fell over the scene.
—Probably because Pei Yushen started it up, he deliberately disguised himself as a member of the production crew and made a surprise appearance in front of Chaochao.
So they were influenced by others.
The cause has been determined, but no one comes out from behind the tree.
They gazed at Chaochao, who was as lively and cheerful as a little bird amidst the swaying figures, and then glanced mercilessly at Pei Yushen, who stood calmly beside her, a faint sense of regret rising in their hearts.
Yu Ning said quietly, "Why did I agree to let him go first back then..."
Xie Jingcheng and Yu Ci remained silent.
When they first heard the news, none of the three greeted each other. Coincidentally, they bought tickets for the same flight and headed to the recording location together after landing.
Along the way, Xie Jingcheng and Yu Ci had witnessed firsthand Yu Ning's sharp tongue. They had seen her suppress her anger and coldly berate everyone in the production team, from the coordinating director to the cameramen, as well as those netizens who spread rumors and cursed others.
However, Yu Ning only sighed and uttered a single sarcastic remark before falling silent. Seemingly sensing what the two beside her were thinking, she raised an eyebrow and glanced at them sideways before casually looking away.
Ha, Pei Yushen is at least Chaochao's acknowledged older brother.
She doesn't speak ill of her own people casually.
Xie Jingcheng: "..."
Yu Ci returned to the main topic, her tone flat: "...It's too late to regret it now."
The silence Xie Jingcheng and the others had already revealed everything.
At that time, the last possible clue appeared, but because Pei Yushen had difficulty walking, he was unable to keep up with the speed of the rescue team. He had no choice but to stay in place with Jiang Chi, waiting for news while continuing to search for people.
When news of Chaochao's safe rescue arrived, Xie Jingcheng, Yu Ci, and Yu Ning had just arrived at Nanqiu Ridge and met with Pei Yushen.
At that moment, everyone's nerves, which had been stretched to the limit, finally relaxed.
The four of them then discussed it and decided to wait for Chaochao to come out at the forest exit where the guests were officially returning after the show's recording.
Then, Chaochao's four dear older siblings argued about the order in which they would greet her, and in the end, Pei Yushen secured the victory first.
Pei Yushen: "I'll go first."
The other three asked coldly, "On what grounds?"
