Huo Qin gently brushed aside her damp, curly hair with his fingertips. Against the backdrop of her bright, star-like eyes, his gaze was as deep and unfathomable as the night.
“If you get lost,” he said slowly and calmly, “I will do everything in my power to find you.”
Chaochao blinked quietly, her long, curled eyelashes fluttering like little fans.
“So,” Huo Qin changed the subject, pointing at the children’s book with his fingertip and glancing at her casually, “which story do you want to hear tonight?”
"Hmm..." She tilted her head and quickly thought, "I want to listen to 'The Little Squirrel Selling Sweet Potatoes'!"
The little dumpling immediately perked up, but not long after, after an hour of fussing and turning late at night, she started nodding like a chick pecking at rice. Her soft, chubby face pressed against Huo Qin's firm forearm, her little mouth squeezing into a goldfish shape: "Daddy..."
Huo Qin paused, then asked in a low voice, "Hmm?"
Then comes the unwavering "Daddy's Declaration" every night before bed—Chaochao firmly believes that if she doesn't say this one day, her daddy will be secretly sad under the covers.
"Daddy knows..." The sleepy, slurred little voice melted away, "I love you the most in the universe, Chaochao..."
She yawned, her small hand tightly gripping Huo Qin's two fingers, and mumbled like a little adult, "Daddy can't get lost either...you have to hold my hand tightly..."
Her little head bobbed up and down. "Even in my dreams... stay close to me..."
Daddy can't live without her at all.
After saying this, the little dumpling finally tilted its head and gave up.
After a long pause, a soft chuckle suddenly broke the silence of the bedroom. Huo Qin raised an eyebrow, looking at his tightly clenched fingers, a subtle amusement playing in his eyes: "So domineering?"
He closed the storybook, bent down, and placed a light kiss on that little forehead full of adorable thoughts:
"Okay, I understand."
