Chapter 1 Let's get a divorce
A villa surrounded by mountains in City A, bedroom.
The waves of passion washed over him, and the man kissed the mole on the woman's chest with fervor.
After it was over, Lu Yanzhi turned over and sat up.
"Let's get a divorce." Lu Yanzhi's voice was completely emotionless.
I was still a little out of breath after exercising.
She turned around and looked into his deep eyes with a bewildered expression.
They've been married for a year, and she still doesn't understand what he means by those words.
"She has stomach cancer and only has six months to live."
Lu Yanzhi lit a cigarette, the rising smoke blurring his face.
"Being my wife before she dies was her only wish in this life."
Shi Nian remained silent, and the large bedroom was completely quiet.
The bedside lamp was dimly lit, casting the shadows of the two people on the wall, making the distance between them, which should have been very close, appear much farther.
He frowned slightly, seemingly noticing that she didn't immediately agree.
"Just to comfort her."
He said, "We'll remarry in six months."
"Shi Nian, she only has six months left."
His voice was calm, as if these words were merely a notification.
Shi Nian stared blankly at his profile.
It seemed she had to agree to every single one of his requests.
She had to obey his orders as if they were sacred decrees.
That's right, their relationship was all won over by her.
My youthful infatuation.
She followed him around ever since she became an adult.
That year, during a torrential downpour, he shielded her from the rain, holding a piece of rotten wood in his hand, and risked his life to tell her stepfather, "If you dare to hurt Shi Nian again, I'll make you pay!"
She was nearly beaten to death. That night, through the torrential rain and crimson blood, she saw his hand, his knuckles white, gripping a rotten piece of wood, and his cold, resolute eyes in the downpour.
He saved her life.
And so she fell hopelessly in love with him.
She would always do what he asked of her, doing it with all her might, and doing it better than anyone else.
He would always pat her head after he finished and softly praise her, "Niannian, you did a great job."
Even though his words and kisses were always light and fleeting, and their feelings for each other had always been lukewarm.
She also believed that it was just his nature.
So even though everyone called her a simp, she was happy to accept it.
For seven years, throughout her youth, she followed him.
A year ago, the old man's condition deteriorated rapidly, and the Lu family discussed having him get married to bring good luck.
He found her and took her to get their marriage certificate.
She thought that their years of relationship had finally come to fruition, but after marriage, he became distant and aloof towards her. In fact, she could sense his aversion to her.
"Shi Nian, are you listening to me?"
Seemingly noticing her distraction, he frowned and looked at her.
"Does it really have to be this way?" she asked.
Instead of answering directly, he avoided the topic and said, "Shi Nian, she is very pitiful."
"What about me?" she asked instinctively.
He didn't answer immediately, a hint of impatience in his deep eyes.
He spoke again after about three seconds.
"Shi Nian, she's dying."
"You may not know, but she loves me. However, because of our marriage, she doesn't want to hurt you. We have never crossed any lines."
"Even if I want to give her something, she always refuses."
"She's kind, so just let her have her way."
"Shi Nian, don't make me think you're vicious."
His voice was calm to the point of being cold, but her heart was breaking.
It turns out that having an affair with a married man and saying a few hypocritical words is called kindness.
Originally, a wife who refused to give up her husband was called wicked.
She looked at his face, which looked exactly the same as it had years ago.
Deep-set eyes, a straight nose, and thin, sword-like lips.
When did he start to change?
It was probably from the day "she" appeared.
"Are you sure you want a divorce?" she asked one last time.
He didn't answer, his lips pressed tightly together in a straight line.
Finally, he parted his thin lips slightly.
He said, "Yes, you..."
"good."
Before he could say anything more, she had already agreed.
He paused for a moment.
He narrowed his eyes and looked at her with a scrutinizing gaze.
"Shi Nian, you're getting more and more amazing."
His tone unusually carried a hint of anger.
"You figured out I needed your consent to blackmail me?"
Shi Nian didn't speak, quietly watching the shadows of the two people on the white wall.
Lu Yanzhi stubbed out his cigarette, said nothing more, hurriedly put on his clothes, and strode out.
He seemed completely unconcerned about her thoughts, or how humiliating or unacceptable his request was.
Because he knew she couldn't live without him.
This has always been the case for so many years.
"Bang!"
Lu Yanzhi slammed the door and left.
Shi Nian was the only one left in the bedroom.
She watched quietly as he closed the door behind him as he left.
A person sat on the edge of the bed for a long time.
"Buzzing".
Phone vibration alert.
Someone sent her a message.
She reached for her phone.
The person who had saved her contact as "her alternate account" sent her a message.
Her alternate account: [He came to see me again.]
The accompanying picture is Lu Yanzhi's profile reflected in the glass of the entryway.
His face wore a warm smile, and his eyes held a tenderness she had never seen before.
Shi Nian paused slightly, then flipped the page upwards.
The previous message was: "He said he has feelings for me."
The post before that was: "Is it cold on a rainy night? I'm not cold, because he's beside me."
The post before that was: "The one who isn't loved is the mistress. Shi Nian, you were just a choice he had to make when he wanted to marry you to ward off bad luck. He appreciates my aesthetic sense and agrees with my taste. The person he loves is me."
...
There are many such messages.
Every little bit, every drop, was proof of his betrayal of her.
She never knew that Lu Yanzhi, who had always been indifferent to her for the past seven years, was like this in front of another person...
So vibrant.
She scrolled to the last entry, but didn't look at it anymore. She mechanically flipped through all the records, stopping at the first one—[You should know who I am. Are the flowers in the living room pretty today? I gave them to him, and he said they're beautiful.]
Oh……
Of course she knew who it was.
Han Wei is a well-known IP florist on a certain platform, famous for her floral arrangements in luxury villas and large apartments.
Shi Nian had shown these records to Lu Yanzhi, but he said she had no evidence to prove that Han Wei had posted them.
Some even suspected that she deliberately used a secondary account to send these messages to herself in order to frame Han Wei.
Because there are very few pictures in the records, and even if there are, they are easily taken by ordinary people from a third-person perspective.
Except for today.
Should we show this to Lu Yanzhi?
With her phone tossed aside, Shi Nian pulled out a document from the bottom of her bedside table.
Take out the pregnancy certificate that I just received earlier today.
She was pregnant with Lu Yanzhi's child.
At the most inappropriate time.
Tears fell onto the document, blurring a large area.
His heart no longer belongs to her, so what difference does it make even if it's proven?
Wipe away your tears.
Shi Nian took the lighter that Lu Yanzhi had used to light a cigarette and lit the document.
He didn't know that divorce was the last time she would agree to his request.
Seven years of youth, seven years of time.
She has already repaid him enough for his kindness.
She also decided to stop loving him.
