Chapter 105 The Murderer

"Mother, your son greets you." With tear marks still on his face, Xingge'er came into the house and bowed obediently.

Sitting on the bed, Lin Jiaoniang wept. She looked at Xingger, who bore a passing resemblance to Deger, and cried even louder. Xu Wen pulled Xingger up, who was about to bow to her, and said, "Your mother wants to see you the most right now. You must stay by her side at all times these days. Do you understand?"

The childish, round-faced child nodded solemnly, then walked to the bedside and wiped Lin Jiaoniang's tears with his sleeve. Feeling the soft little hand, Lin Jiaoniang's heart ached, the near-death pain she felt in her heart instantly faded. She looked up at Xing Ge'er, whose face was covered in tears and looked worried. She was shocked and hugged him, crying.

But this time, Lin Jiaoniang felt a little relieved after she cried. A quarter of an hour later, Xu Wen stepped forward and said, "How can you be a mother like you? Crying in front of your child is fine, but how can you cry while holding the child? Put Xing'er down quickly. No matter how strong the child is, he is still fragile. How can he cry for such a long time?"

Hearing Xu Wen's words, Lin Jiaoniang let go of Xing Ge'er. Looking at Xing Ge'er, whose eyes were red and swollen and he was still sobbing slightly, her heart ached and she called out, "Jiu'er, bring in a hot towel."

When the servants brought two hot towels, Lin Jiaoniang took the towel first and cleaned Xingge'er's face. As she cleaned his face, she said, "Son, it's all my fault. I won't do this again in the future."

Little Xingge shook his head and said, "Mother, I'm fine. Crying will make you feel better." Then Xingge covered his chest and continued, "I'm heartbroken. My brother is gone, and I miss him so much."

Seeing that Lin Jiaoniang was about to cry again, Xu Wen picked up the hot towel and covered her face with it: "Wash your face quickly."

Xu Wen left the Yu residence before dinner, having promised Yu Shuyuan she would return the next day. On the way back, Qiu Ling said, "Master Yu has been out there punishing quite a few people. I heard the second young master was thrown into the pond by his wet nurse..."

This matter was likely no simple matter. If a wet nurse had the good fortune to raise the young master of the mansion, her life would have been carefree for the rest of her life. Unless she had been given a huge benefit, why would she do such a thing? Qiu Ling hadn't inquired about the details, and Xu Wen hadn't asked Qiu Ling to inquire about the matter. If Sister Jiao wanted to talk about it later, she would tell her the truth.

For three days, Xu Wen got up early every day to go to the Yu residence, and returned to the Sheng residence before dinner. After learning about this, Sheng Huairen told Xu Wen to go without worry, and under the pretext of picking up Xu Wen, he went to the Yu residence and chatted with Yu Shuyuan in the study for more than an hour.

Because De Ge'er died young, the funeral in the mansion was not a grand affair. They simply removed the colorful decorations, and close relatives came to Yu's house to express their condolences and offer funeral rites.

Lin Jiaoniang cried bitterly again on the day of De Ge'er's burial, but after she fell ill, she stopped crying all day. After recovering from her illness, Lin Jiaoniang cared more about Xing Ge'er and wished she could be with him all the time.

One day, Lin Jiaoniang talked about the culprit behind Dege'er's premature death. It turned out to be a woman from Yu Shuyuan's hometown. She had heard from the old woman that Yu Shuyuan was being pressured by a woman from a wealthy family to take a concubine. Perhaps she had other ideas, so she managed to sneak into Yu's house.

That day, while De Ge'er was lingering by the pond, he pushed De Ge'er into the water.

Lin Jiaoniang said calmly, "This is what the master told me."

When Xu Wen heard this, she knew that there was probably more to the story, but Yu Shuyuan didn't want Lin Jiaoniang to know.
