Chapter 107: Mrs. Zhao Si

Xu Wen was thinking of Shu Ge'er in her heart, forcing herself to calm down. She held onto Lin Jiaoniang's arm and slowly stood up, but her hands hanging by her side began to tremble slightly.

Mother Cui trotted over and replied in a panic, "Madam, Madam, it seems that something happened to the two brothers."

Xu Wen, who was standing there straight, was now unusually lucid and asked calmly, "Explain clearly."

After taking two deep breaths, Mother Cui held her head and said, "The two brothers first went to the fields to watch the farmers working, and then followed two farm boys to the river. They were all fine at first, but I don't know what happened. While the farm boys were fishing in the river, the two brothers disappeared in the blink of an eye. The two farm boys who were accompanying them immediately brought them over."

Lin Jiaoniang, who was following Xu Wen, rolled her eyes and fainted. Fortunately, Mother Cui was strong and she quickly stepped forward to support Lin Jiaoniang, and together with Lin Jiaoniang's maid, she sent her back to the room.

Xu Wen, standing still, ordered the nearby guards, "Take the visiting card and report the crime to Shuntian Prefecture. Also, inform Master and Lord Yu. Call all the servants and maids in the mansion and surround and search this farm."

The guards bowed and accepted the order. A moment later, the village head and several adult men dragged the two young men to the village gate. When they saw Xu Wen, they all knelt down. The village head led the way and said, "Master, these two are the boys who accompanied us. You decide how to deal with them."

Xu Wen placed her hand on the maid's arm and asked, "You two, tell me everything that happened today. Don't leave out a single detail."

The taller boy replied nervously, "Madam, I will obey your orders and serve you. I swear to heaven that I have no intention of harming you."

Seeing Xu Wen frown, the tall boy continued, "At first, the two uncles asked me to lead the way to watch the oxen plow the fields. Later, they heard that there were fresh fish in the river not far away, so they asked me to lead them there to catch some fish. I didn't dare let the uncles go in the water, so I volunteered to go in. When I caught the second fish, I looked back to the shore and found that the uncles were gone."

The village head slapped the tall boy on the head, smiled wryly and said to Xu Wen, "This farmer boy doesn't know how to speak. Please forgive me, Madam."

Xu Wen shook her head and asked again, "Did you see anyone? Tell me about it, whether you know them or not."

The tall boy counted on his fingers and said, "When Lao Zhou was plowing the fields, he was leading the ox and met Zhao Si on the way to the river. Hmm...it seems that's the only two of them."

The short boy who had been silent the whole time whispered, "Mrs. Zhao Si."

The voice was too quiet for Xu Wen to hear, but the tall guy next to him heard it, his eyes lit up and he said loudly, "Yes, and Mrs. Zhao Si."

Xu Wen cast her gaze towards the village head, who quickly replied, "Master, Zhao Si picked up his wife from outside a month ago. He said she was ugly and her entire face was wrapped in a cloth. No one had ever seen her face."

Xu Wen turned around and walked towards the yard, ordering as she walked: "Bring them all here, immediately."

The village head agreed and asked the four men who came with him to retreat together. The two boys were still kneeling there, not daring to move, and Xu Wen did not ask them to stand up.

The doctor came and pinched Lin Jiaoniang's Ren Zhong point, waking her from her coma. After waking up, Lin Jiaoniang looked at Xu Wen who came in and asked anxiously, "How is it? Did you find the two brothers?"

Seeing Xu Wen shaking her head, Lin Jiaoniang was about to get out of bed and go look for her, but was stopped by the maid and Cui Mama. After drinking a cup of honey water, Xu Wen repeated what she had just asked. She already had a vague guess in her mind, but she could only force herself to sit here calmly.
