Chapter 15 Family Reunion

Mother Li pulled Li Yuxin to sit beside her and said, "You've never suffered hardship since you were a child. The girls of the Li family have been raised in luxury and pampered, so that they wouldn't be cheated out of money and material possessions, and so that they wouldn't develop petty ideas. Now I think there's still one thing missing: the secrets and intrigues of the inner house. Ordinary families tend to quarrel as soon as there are more people, let alone wealthy families, where all they have is rubbish inside. Mother thought Sister Xin would be tolerant and unsure of how to deal with things when they encounter problems. My child, you've suffered so much in the Sheng family to become what you are now."

Mother Li hugged Li Yuxin, feeling very uncomfortable. How could such a delicate girl, who had never seen such dirty things, handle it so swiftly? She must have seen it so many times that she could handle it in time.

Li Yuxin nestled in her mother's arms, breathing in her scent and sighing softly. Yes, she had endured so much hardship in her past life, only then could she handle things neatly and without attracting criticism. But she would rather remain as innocent as she was before she got married, so that her Hong'er wouldn't die so young.

The mother and daughter exchanged heartfelt conversation for half an hour before the voices of her father and eldest brother reached her from the outer room. Li Yuxin rose from her mother's arms and rushed to the bronze mirror to examine her appearance and attire. After a brief tidying, she saw her mother was fully dressed and went forward to open the inner door.

"Dad, big brother." Li Yuxin greeted her father and brother happily.

Father Li and Big Brother Li smiled and nodded. Father Li looked at Li Yuxin lovingly. Big Brother Li asked, "Little sister, is your brother-in-law here with you?"

Li Yuxin replied, "No, I haven't seen Daddy and Big Brother for so long, and I miss them so much."

Mother Li came over, took Li Yuxin's hand, and they walked towards the hall. When they arrived, everyone else was already there. Father Li and his eldest brother took Sheng Wei to the side study for some practice, while Mother Li held Yun'er and entertained her. The family sat down and chatted until the lively dinner was served.

Life at his mother's house was always so fleeting. Three days later, Sheng Huaizhong arrived to pick up Li Yuxin and her two children. Upon arrival, Li's father and eldest brother invited them to the study for a chat. After a full hour, the three of them emerged. Arriving in the hall, Sheng Huaizhong knelt and apologized to Li's father and mother, saying, "Master Taishan, Master Taishui, I apologize for my inappropriate words and actions. I hope the elders will punish me, and I am willing to bear the consequences."

Father Li stroked his beard and said slowly, "My dear son-in-law, everyone makes mistakes. But it is a great virtue to admit one's mistakes and correct them."

Mother Li stepped forward and asked Sheng Huaizhong to stand up. She smiled and said, "Sir, please don't talk about punishment. I will be satisfied if you treat Sister Xin well in the future."

Big Brother Li snorted and wanted to speak, but was glared at by Li's father and turned away.

Li Yuxin knew that her parents were doing this for her own good and didn't want her to have any rift with her husband, but she really didn't want to pretend to be nice to him anymore, so she just lowered her head and said nothing.

Seeing that Li Yuxin hadn't expressed her opinion, Li's mother invited Sheng Huaizhong to take a seat. Afterwards, Li's father and mother chatted with Sheng Huaizhong. Li Yuxin and Li's eldest brother sat aside as guests, both of them sitting there in silence.

Li Yuxin eventually returned to the Sheng family with her child and Sheng Huaizhong. Later, she realized she couldn't think about divorce just yet. Wei'er was already twelve and would soon be taking the imperial examinations, and the girls would be married in a few years. As long as Sheng Huaizhong was alive before their children married, the rest would depend on fate.
