Chapter 214: Praying for a Child

The next day, Princess Pingning asked Sheng Hong to go to Hongluo Temple outside the capital to burn incense. They had both been married for only a few months, so their mother-in-law would not say anything if they went to pray for a child.

Sheng Hong had married several months earlier than Princess Pingning, and her parents-in-law hadn't urged her to do so. Yu Jiaxing returned for a visit, got married, and within ten days had departed for the west again.

The two of them rode in the same carriage, which was warmed by the burning charcoal. They were good friends, and both were newlyweds, so now that they were finally sitting together, they couldn't stop talking.

So, the two of them talked about concubines. Yu Jiaxing did not have any concubines, and after entering the family, Sheng Hong was not forced to have a concubine by her mother-in-law, which really made Princess Pingning envious.

Princess Pingning leaned against Sheng Hong and said, "Hong, why do you think women should be generous and virtuous? I'm still a princess, but I have to share my husband with a woman who was born a maid."

Sheng Hong also leaned against Princess Pingning, sighed softly, and said, "Who says it's not true? A few days ago, a distant relative of the Yu family brought a little girl to be my husband's concubine. My stubborn mother-in-law was almost persuaded. Fortunately, my father-in-law rushed back. Otherwise, I would have had another sister."

Hearing this, Princess Pingning sat up straight and asked, "What sisters? How can they be worthy?" After guzzling a cup of tea, she said, "Your father-in-law is the best."

Sheng Hong also sat up straight, stretched her neck, and said, "That's right. My father-in-law used to take care of all the household chores. I took over right away after I came home, and my mother-in-law ignored me completely."

When it comes to household chores, Princess Pingning, as the younger daughter-in-law, doesn't interfere. Besides, her eldest sister-in-law is kind and never deviates from her duties, so she enjoys a quiet life.

The two of them chatted about this and that until they got off the bus.

After getting off the car, she took a few steps and snowflakes began to fall. Seeing the snowflakes, Sheng Hong covered her mouth and smiled. Princess Pingning saw Sheng Hong smile and looked at the snowflakes and smiled too.

The two of them linked arms and laughed non-stop. After a long while, Sheng Hong finally stopped and said, "Do you still remember? The snow that year was just like today."

As they walked, Princess Pingning said, "Yes, if it hadn't been snowing so heavily I wouldn't have made such a fool of myself. You're still laughing!"

After saying that, he started laughing again, and Sheng Hong also laughed and said, "Who told you to be so slow in making snowballs? It's not my fault."

It was snowing heavily that day, and the Sheng family children were playing together. Because of the heavy snow, Sheng Wei suggested a snowball fight. The three boys and three girls seemed to be playing fairly, but Princess Pingning was clumsy and spent a long time making a snowball. As a result, the girls' couple was defeated miserably.

Princess Pingning was so upset that she cried all the way back to the Marquis of Xiangyang's mansion. She felt deeply wronged at the time, but later on, she couldn't stop laughing whenever she thought about it.

The maid offered to hold an umbrella for the two, but was refused. This was the first snow, so clean. The two seemed to have returned to their youth, looking up at the falling snowflakes. It was as if at this moment, all the discomfort after getting married had completely dissipated under the baptism of white snowflakes.

After having the vegetarian meal, the two set off to return to the city. It seemed that the snow would not stop for a while, and if they went back too late, they might not be able to go back.

In the carriage, the two of them discussed their desire for a child. Sheng Hong had a secret recipe, and it was up to her whether she wanted to have a baby or not. After a moment's thought, she said, "Xin'er, I have some prescriptions, but I don't know how effective they are. Are you in a hurry to have a baby?"

Princess Pingning shook her head and said, "That's not true. I just want to wait a few years before I decide. How old am I now? What kind of prescription do I need?"

Sheng Hong leaned close to Princess Pingning's ear and whispered, "Avoiding and giving birth to a child."

"What?" Princess Pingning broke away with her eyes wide open, her voice a little loud. After reacting, she covered her mouth and looked at Sheng Hong.
