Li Yuxin wiped the corners of her eyes with a handkerchief, and nodded helplessly with a look of reluctance on her face, indicating that she understood Mr. Sheng's painstaking efforts.
Old Master Sheng looked at Li Yuxin with satisfaction and said, "You've done a great job as the legal wife. Even though the eldest brother did something so awful, you didn't complain at all and even came to plead for him. This makes me feel relieved. Get up and sit down to talk."
Old Master Sheng asked Li Yuxin to get up and ordered Butler Song: "Drag the eldest son back to the study in the front yard. Don't treat his leg. Just use some medicine to keep him alive. As long as he survives, that's fine."
Steward Song looked at Old Master Sheng in astonishment and asked carefully, "If Master's leg is not treated immediately, he might suffer from a later illness."
Old Master Sheng waved his hand. "Spending the rest of his life lying in bed is a blessing for the Sheng family. We must not let this prodigal son squander all the hard-earned wealth. If we let him do whatever he wants, we might even lose our ancestral home. How will I explain this to our ancestors in my afterlife?"
Li Yuxin almost laughed out loud. The Sheng family didn't have any ancestors. Old Master Sheng was just a beggar. If he hadn't made a fortune during the war, he'd probably still be begging for food. Li Yuxin covered her mouth with a handkerchief, pinching her palms to suppress her laughter.
Butler Song bowed and left, and Li Yuxin also took her leave, saying that she was going to help the master find a place to stay.
When they came out, they saw two servants putting Sheng Huaizhong on the board. Sheng Huaizhong was crying and screaming for his parents, but he didn't look weak at all after being beaten with fifty sticks. Li Yuxin followed Sheng Huaizhong and his group to the inner room of the study and sat aside to watch everyone put Sheng Huaizhong down. Sheng Huaizhong looked at the leisurely Li Yuxin and was furious. He asked in a cold voice: "Li Yuxin, is there any lady like you?"
Li Yuxin gave him a mocking smile, then sat aside, covering her mouth, neither saying a word nor moving. Sheng Huaizhong, watching his wife behave like this, was so angry that a mouthful of blood spurted from his throat, and then he fainted. Li Yuxin shook her shoulders, covering her mouth with her hands, and laughed silently, feeling extremely happy.
Mother Liu thought Li Yuxin was hurt by Sheng Huaizhong's scolding and hurried forward to comfort her. Li Yuxin patted Mother Liu's hand and said, "Mom, you go back and accompany the two children. The old man is injured and I need to take care of him here."
Mother Liu looked at Li Yuxin who had her head down, sighed, agreed, and then stepped back.
"Mom, what happened to father?" Sheng Wei came in and asked when he saw Li Yuxin.
Li Yuxin looked at her handsome son and waved to Sheng Wei. When Sheng Wei came forward, Li Yuxin said, "Wei'er, your father has been punished by your grandfather and may have to stay in bed for a while. Don't worry, Wei'er, your father's injuries are not serious, and your mother is here to take care of him. Wei'er, just study hard and prepare for the autumn exam in ten days."
Sheng Wei asked worriedly, "Dad must be more seriously injured this time than the previous two times. He's still unconscious."
Li Yuxin almost laughed out loud. She picked up the glazed teacup on the table to distract herself, then said, "Your father is mad at mother. He just scolded her and fainted. The doctor said it's nothing serious and he'll be fine after a good night's sleep."
Sheng Wei was stunned, then said awkwardly: "Oh, I understand. I'll wait here for Daddy to wake up."
Li Yuxin asked, "Has Wei'er had dinner?"
Sheng Wei shook his head. Li Yuxin stood up and said, "We don't know when your father will wake up. Let's eat first. Later, mother will come back to see your father. Wei'er can write a few big words in the outer room and wait for him." Sheng Wei nodded after hearing this, and the mother and son went to the side room to eat together.
