In the capital, Bai Shi had been feeling a bit anxious these past few days. Her due date was still over a month away, yet her belly was already looking full-term. She had consulted several imperial physicians and other doctors, but they all confirmed it was just one baby, not twins.

Then Mother Chang quietly approached the midwife, grabbed her from behind, and stuffed the handkerchief into her mouth.
The guards came in quickly and dragged the midwife away. Bai, who had been closing her eyes, opened her eyes and saw Chang Mama nod, then closed her eyes again.
Seeing the two midwives being dragged away, the two old women who stayed behind shrank back.
At daybreak, Bai suddenly felt a terrible pain in her stomach. The midwife examined her and said, "It's almost time for the baby to come. Madam, please try harder."
Bai bit the cork in her mouth and sucked with all her might. Mother Chang, with red eyes, prayed in her heart: "God, please have mercy on my daughter, please let her give birth smoothly."
But after trying for a long time, there was still no movement. The two midwives checked Bai again, and one of them looked at Chang Mama hesitantly, wanting to say something.
