Chapter 251 Is it time to give birth?

In the capital, Bai Shi had been feeling a bit anxious these past few days. Her due date was still over a month away, yet her belly was already looking full-term. She had consulted several imperial physicians and other doctors, but they all confirmed it was just one baby, not twins.

That night, Bai had another dream. In it, a plump little black snake wriggled in her hand, followed by a thin little white snake trying to burrow into her palm. After Bai managed to hold the little white snake in her hand, she suddenly felt a pain in her lower body.

Bai suddenly woke up with a start, and her body suddenly felt hot again. Having given birth twice in her previous life, Bai knew her body's reaction very well. She was about to give birth.

As the saying goes, life is good on the seventh month and life is bad on the eighth month. What should I do now that it’s been more than eight months?

After a moment of panic, Bai rubbed her stomach and forced herself to calm down. After taking a few deep breaths, she pulled the bell tied to the bed.

Worried that she wouldn't have the strength to make a sound during labor, Chang's mother had tied a bell to Bai's bedside. As soon as the bell rang, Xiangyun, who was accompanying her overnight, stood up and asked, "Madam, are you going to get up?"

Before Mrs. Bai could reply, Mrs. Chang rushed in. After rushing to the bedside, she asked, "Miss, are you going to give birth?"

Seeing Bai nod, Madam Chang ordered, "Quick, prepare as agreed. Hot water, scissors, and cloths are essential. Also, invite the court physician to come and take charge. Notice the captain of the guards to come and guard the main courtyard. No one is allowed to wander around."

After giving the order, Mother Chang went over and helped Mrs. Bai to the bedside. It was just four o'clock in the morning, and Mrs. Bai was only feeling some pain, but it was all within the tolerable range.

In order to conserve her energy, Bai said nothing, closed her eyes, stroked her stomach and took deep breaths.

After the guards secured the main courtyard, the court doctor arrived. Bai had already been taken to the delivery room, where everyone entering and leaving the delivery room had their clothing, hands, nails, and hair inspected.

Just as Bai lay down, a midwife was found to have something under her fingernail. She started to scream in an attempt to scare Bai, but the guards covered her mouth and took her down.

By the time Bai was finished with her wonton soup and was beginning to sweat, someone outside the courtyard was spotted trying to set off firecrackers. Chang's mother, upon learning of this, dared not leave the Bai family, secretly resenting the fact that there were so many demons and monsters in this wealthy family. They had just sent a group of them off, and now they were all back.

But she also knew that now was not the right time, so she could only endure it for now. Mother Chang stared at the remaining three midwives and noticed that one of the square-faced midwives had a strange look in her eyes. Then Mother Chang quietly approached the midwife, grabbed her from behind, and stuffed the handkerchief into her mouth.

The guards came in quickly and dragged the midwife away. Bai, who had been closing her eyes, opened her eyes and saw Chang Mama nod, then closed her eyes again.

Seeing the two midwives being dragged away, the two old women who stayed behind shrank back.

At daybreak, Bai suddenly felt a terrible pain in her stomach. The midwife examined her and said, "It's almost time for the baby to come. Madam, please try harder."

Bai bit the cork in her mouth and sucked with all her might. Mother Chang, with red eyes, prayed in her heart: "God, please have mercy on my daughter, please let her give birth smoothly."

But after trying for a long time, there was still no movement. The two midwives checked Bai again, and one of them looked at Chang Mama hesitantly, wanting to say something.

Mother Chang glared at her and whispered, "What's wrong with you, girl? Tell me now!"
