Chapter 292 I Was the Bastard in the Past

After Gu Yan drove away, Bai sighed lightly and went into the house to see Ye Ge'er.

It's almost dusk, and I can't let Ye Ge'er sleep any longer, otherwise he will wake up in the middle of the night and won't have the energy to sleep tomorrow.

At Bai's signal, the nurse stepped forward and gently called Ye'er for a moment, and Ye'er slowly woke up. Half asleep, he stretched out his little arms for Bai to hold him, and Bai held him and rocked him. When Ye'er was fully awake, he said hello to the steward and got in the carriage to return home.

Just as she had returned to the mansion and freshened up, Gu Yankai walked in. Bai Shi stepped forward to greet her as usual, then continued to talk to Chang Mama. Gu Yankai touched his nose and sat down in the upper seat. He took the tea brought by the maid, skimmed the tea foam with his teacup, and glanced at Bai Shi from the corner of his eye.

When it was time for dinner, Gu Yankai joined them. During the meal, Gu Yankai picked up some food for Bai Shi, who smiled slightly and took it and ate it.

After rinsing her mouth, Mrs. Bai finally spoke: "My Lord, I am not feeling well and cannot serve you. How about choosing two good girls to serve you?"

Gu Yankai's hand, which was about to put down the cup, stopped in mid-air. He turned around and looked at Bai in surprise, and saw that Bai was not angry but was making a serious proposal.

Gu Yankai slowly put down the cup, smiled bitterly and said, "I know I failed you in the past, and now this has happened again. You are right not to believe me."

Bai lowered her head and stood three steps away from Gu Yankai.

Gu Yankai waited for a moment, but when he heard no reply from Mrs. Bai, he continued, "That Miss Qin Liu, she, she looked very similar to Mrs. Qin. I wouldn't say I was momentarily infatuated, and it's true that I promised to marry her. But ever since I fell ill, I've never thought of it again. She died of a long illness, and it has nothing to do with you or me."

Seeing Bai raise her head to look at him, Gu Yankai continued, "That woman was Miss Qin Liu's wet nurse. She seemed unable to accept Miss Qin Liu's passing and has become a little crazy."

Gu Yankai continued to assure him, "That woman has been sent back to her hometown, hundreds of miles away from the capital. She will never come out to look for you again. I just want to live a good life with you. I don't ask for your forgiveness for the past. I just want us to respect each other as husband and wife."

Seeing that Bai still didn't react, Gu Yankai stood up and took a step towards Bai. Bai didn't retreat either. She looked up at Gu Yankai and said, "If I want a divorce, will you write a letter for me?"

Gu Yankai grabbed Bai's hand and said, "Absolutely impossible!"

Bai smiled sadly and asked, "Why?"

Bai Shi actually wanted to ask, since you don't like me and like someone else, why don't you let me go? But in her previous life, Bai Shi never waited for Gu Yankai's answer.

The woman in front of him, who was ten years younger than him and had a beautiful face, had eyes full of sadness. Being looked at by such eyes, Gu Yankai suddenly felt as if he owed the Bai family his whole life.

He sighed deeply, reached out and pulled Bai into his arms, holding her tightly against his body. Gu Yankai's voice was softer than ever before, saying, "I'm so much older than you, and you came from a thousand miles away to marry me. I should have loved you dearly. I was the jerk in the past, but I promise to treat you well from now on. Time is long, and you'll see over the next few decades."

Bai Shi was sore from being held by Gu Yankai's arm that she struggled for a few times before Gu Yankai released her arm. However, even though Gu Yankai released his arm, he did not let Bai Shi go, as if he would not give up until he achieved his goal.
