"Ah..." Zhou Shuyan was awakened by the dream in a cold sweat. With the faint moonlight outside the window, she tightened the quilt.
In that dark and boundless dream, someone kept calling her ancient name. She could see nothing but darkness, and then suddenly a pair of bloodthirsty eyes appeared, their terrifying blood-red color making her feel an inexplicable sadness.
Zhou Shuyan hugged the quilt and stared out the window with her eyes open. She didn't get out of bed until dawn. The time on her phone was 7:30. After a quick breakfast, Zhou Shuyan rode her electric scooter to work.
When Zhou Shuyan saw Manager Wang coming to the company that morning, she went over and knocked on the door. After entering, Zhou Shuyan asked, "Manager Wang, is it possible to switch from driving to taking the high-speed rail to go to S City?"
Manager Wang sat in his boss's chair and asked her with a puzzled look on his face, "Xiao Zhou, are you carsick?"
Zhou Shuyan didn't expect that Manager Wang had found an excuse for her, and then nodded like a chicken pecking at rice.
Manager Wang thought for a moment and said, "Since you're carsick, you can take the high-speed train alone. Book your ticket in advance and meet us at the Song Group building on time."
Zhou Shuyan originally wanted everyone to take the high-speed rail to avoid the accident, but seeing that Manager Wang was very busy, Zhou Shuyan quickly agreed and then left Manager Wang's office.
After booking the high-speed rail ticket on her phone, Zhou Shuyan thought about it but couldn't bring herself to say it out loud. No one would believe her even if she did. It was as if she had changed since returning from ancient times. She no longer thought about saving others, but only selfishly thinking about protecting herself.
The next day, Zhou Shuyan was dropped off at the high-speed rail station by her father. Manager Wang took her computer and documents to the car, while Zhou Shuyan grabbed a bag of food her mother had prepared. After just over twenty minutes, with fruit and snacks, Zhou Shuyan refused, leaving the bag uneaten and boarding the high-speed train.
China's high-speed rail is world-leading, fast and stable. Zhou Shuyan found it much better than her previous experience flying. Ticket checking was also fast, and finding a seat was easy, and sitting there wasn't tiring.
Zhou Shuyan got off the train, carrying a bag of food, and took the subway directly from the high-speed rail station to Song Group. It took only ten minutes to arrive at the station. Arriving more than an hour early, Zhou Shuyan sat down in the cafe next to Song Group to wait for Manager Wang and his group.
Zhou Shuyan, who was sitting by the window holding a cup of coffee, caught the eyes of a man in a car nearby. The man's deep eyes flashed, and then he stopped the driver and got out of the back seat.
"Ma'am, is anyone here?"
Zhou Shuyan turned around and looked at the person in surprise. The coffee cup in her hand fell down with a loud bang, and the coffee on the ground spilled all over.
"Ma'am, are you okay?" The man looked at the panicked Zhou Shuyan and immediately approached to pull her up. Zhou Shuyan stared at the man blankly until her arm was pulled up, and then she came to her senses and tried to break free from the man's hand.
The man released his grip on Zhou Shuyan and explained, "I was worried you'd get burned."
Zhou Shuyan shook her head, studying the man's face. His sharp eyebrows, sharp eyes, and gentle gaze, along with his pale complexion, made him look a great deal like the emperor in his youth, when he was still a prince. Could there really be someone so similar in the world?
Seeing that Zhou Shuyan didn't speak, the man introduced himself: "Hello, I'm Song Ning. What's your address, Ms.?"
Zhou Shuyan retracted her scrutinizing gaze and looked at the waiter beside her and said, "Hello, do you need compensation?"
The waiter came over and took a look and said, "No need, miss, why don't you move to the other side and I will clean it up."
Zhou Shuyan thanked the waiter, picked up her bag and left. The man looked at the bag of food left on the seat, narrowed his eyes, and watched Zhou Shuyan leave.
