Xu Tingchuan sensed something was off about the tone of those words and squinted at Ni Sitian's expression.
Her face was lowered, her lips were slightly pouting, and she was stirring the porridge with a spoon in her hand, looking sullen.
He smiled faintly, teasing her on purpose: "Of course it's enjoyable."
Upon hearing this, Ni Sitian pouted even more, her tone becoming increasingly sour: "No wonder you couldn't bear to go home even after being away on business for ten or fifteen days."
After she finished speaking, she lost her appetite, packed up her lunchbox, turned her head to look out the window, and decided not to pay any more attention to him.
Xu Tingchuan looked at her pouting lips, reached out and gently pinched her nose, and laughed, "Why do I smell such a strong sour smell?"
Ni Sitian snorted and turned her head further away.
"Don't be so awkward, your neck is practically rotating 360 degrees." Xu Tingchuan's voice was full of laughter.
Ni Sitian felt a tightness in her chest and wanted to go outside for some fresh air.
She had just stood up when Xu Tingchuan grabbed her wrist and pulled her back.
She stumbled a couple of times and fell into his arms, where he held her tightly. He sniffed the nape of her neck and chuckled, "It's so sour."
She frowned slightly, feigning ignorance: "Really? I didn't smell anything."
Xu Tingchuan was amused by her, buried his head in the crook of her neck, parted his lips slightly, and kissed the flesh of her shoulder and neck.
When his lips touched her skin, a jolt of electricity seemed to surge through her body, flowing to every limb and bone, and her face instantly turned red.
"There was a problem with the project contract that caused the delay. I'm sorry I couldn't come back on time," Xu Tingchuan said earnestly, putting his arm around her.
"Work is important, I understand." Ni Sitian shrugged and said casually, "Besides, you already agreed on this before we got married."
Xu Tingchuan opened his mouth, but swallowed back what he was about to say.
That's exactly what he said. If he were to ask her now if she missed him, it would seem too much to ask. He was the one who drew the line clearly back then; he didn't want a clingy wife.
But hearing Ni Sitian's understanding and thoughtfulness made me feel a little uncomfortable.
She's only twenty-one, so he can allow her to be a little clingy, and even somewhat hopes she'll be clingy to him.
"Every time I go on a business trip, do you stay at Xiang Zhilan's place?" Xu Tingchuan rested his chin on her shoulder.
“No, I used to live in the dormitory.” Ni Sitian was afraid that he would think that she didn’t like staying at home, so she explained again: “This time I went to Zhi Lan’s house because of Qin Mubei. I don’t know if he lives nearby. I run into him every time I go to work. I found it annoying, so I went to Zhi Lan’s house.”
Upon hearing this, Xu Tingchuan frowned. This Qin Mubei actually wanted to invade Ni Sitian's life again.
"That was my first day at work, and he insisted on putting me in his car to give me a ride. I left my phone in his car." Ni Sitian decided to clarify the matter to avoid any further misunderstandings.
"Silly girl, do you think I really believe what he says?" Xu Tingchuan rubbed her head. He roughly guessed what had happened, but he didn't call her out of spite because of that. He was angry that she never called him first.
Thinking of this, he hesitated for a moment, but still couldn't help asking that question: "Have you missed me these past few days?"
Ni Sitian was stunned for a moment, unsure how to answer the question. According to what Xu Tingchuan had said before the marriage, he probably didn't want his wife to be too clingy, but saying it to his face would make their marital relationship seem too cold.
After much deliberation, just as she was about to answer, Xu Tingchuan's cold voice said domineeringly, "You're not allowed to say no."
