“People grow up, and things change.” Xu Jiayue smiled, then looked at Pei Yang and said, “Brother Pei Yang, don’t you think what I said makes sense?”
Pei Yang regained his relaxed expression, reached out and gently rubbed Xu Jiayue's head, softening her hair, and said with a smile, "That makes so much sense. The little girl has grown into a young lady, and she'll be getting married soon. She's becoming more and more sensible."
"Yes, I can't believe it's already time for you to get married, Jia Yue." Su Yan smiled faintly. Although her face was disfigured, her eyes were still very beautiful. Before, her smile was unrestrained and sunny, but now it was gentle and serene.
“After all, eleven years have passed. I’m twenty-seven now, not the sixteen-year-old girl you used to know.” Xu Jiayue sat down, reached for an apple, and prepared to peel it for Su Yan.
“That’s true, it’s been eleven years.” Su Yan looked up at Pei Yang and said, “Now it’s just the two of us, still all alone. I’m in this state now, I don’t have the mind for these things anymore. You should hurry up and find a wife.”
Pei Yang raised an eyebrow and smiled elegantly: "I'm not willing to give up the whole forest for one tree."
"Hiss..." Xu Jiayue gasped, her fingers instantly bleeding and staining the blade red.
"How could you be so careless!" Pei Yang took the knife and apple from her hands and hurriedly pulled her to the bathroom to flush the toilet.
Su Yan saw Pei Yang's face change in a moment of anxiety, smiled slightly, and shook her head.
Pei Yang rinsed Xu Jiayue's hands under the tap.
Xu Jiayue looked down at his hand holding hers, feeling a little uncomfortable, and wanted to pull it back.
"Don't move!" Pei Yang whispered, his mind completely focused on her bleeding hand, with no other thoughts on his mind.
"No need, that's enough." Xu Jiayue forcefully pulled her hand back, removing it from his chest.
He had just wrapped his arms around her from behind and held her hand; that was too intimate, especially since she has a fiancé.
Pei Yang gradually realized that his actions were not good. He glanced at Xu Jiayue's still bleeding hand, said "Go find a nurse," and then stepped out of the bathroom and out of the ward.
Xu Jiayue continued rinsing herself under the tap with her head down when her phone rang in her pocket. She took it out with one hand, saw it was Han Shizhao, and answered.
Han Shizhao heard the sound of water on the other end of the phone and asked her if she was washing something.
Xu Jiayue explained a few words to him, and he said that he happened to be at the city hospital as well, asking her which floor and which ward she was in.
After speaking, Xu Jiayue hung up the phone, and seeing that she had finished rinsing, she left the bathroom.
Pei Yang happened to ask the nurse for some band-aids, so he asked Xu Jiayue to reach out and bent down to help her put on the band-aids.
At this moment, the ward door opened again, and Xu Jiayue looked up and saw Han Shizhao standing outside, still wearing his military uniform. She felt a little guilty and withdrew her hand.
Pei Yang's hand, holding the band-aid, stood there awkwardly. Han Shizhao strode in, bypassed him, and took Xu Jiayue's hand. He saw that the fingertips were cut quite deeply by the blade, and the water had washed them white, making them look bloodless.
"So careless." Han Shizhao didn't say much, but his voice was full of heartache and reproach.
"Hurry up and put it on this girl." Pei Yang only froze for a moment before smiling again and naturally handing the band-aid to Han Shizhao.
"Thank you." Han Shizhao took it and carefully applied it to Xu Jiayue.
