Jin Rulan came out of Xu Jiayue's room after their conversation, looking exhausted as she walked downstairs, shaking her head at Xu Haicheng.
Xu Haicheng knew it was useless and let out a long sigh.
"Young Master Pei." Butler Wang greeted Pei Yang as he entered.
Xu Haicheng and Jin Rulan both looked back. In recent days, Pei Yang had been running around for them, both at the hospital and at home, and they had become closer.
"Tingchuan is comforting the child." Xu Haicheng's first thought was that Pei Yang had come to see Xu Tingchuan.
Jin Rulan, being a woman, was more sensitive. She felt that while he was indeed worried about Tingchuan, he was also worried about Xu Jiayue.
Speaking of which, Pei Yang comes even more frequently than Han Shizhao, but Han Shizhao is busy in the army and there's nothing he can do about it; national affairs are much more important than personal matters. Although she can understand this, she thinks that Jia Yue will probably not receive much care after marrying him, and she doesn't know whether this is a good thing or a bad thing.
"Then I'll go check on Jia Yue." Pei Yang nodded politely to the two elders and prepared to go upstairs.
"Wait a minute, give this to Jiayue. She hasn't eaten anything since this morning." Jin Rulan took the tray from the maid and handed it to Pei Yang.
"I'll try to persuade them." Pei Yang took the item and turned to walk upstairs.
He arrived at Jia Yue's room, knocked on the door, and went in when he received no response. He knew she wouldn't give him any reaction now.
Once inside, I saw Xu Jiayue sitting by the window, her head down, tidying up her yarn.
The midday sun shone in, making her face appear almost translucent white.
"Jiayue." Pei Yang walked to her side, put down the tray, and said, "I heard you haven't eaten anything all morning. Eat something, or your body won't be able to handle it."
Xu Jiayue looked up at Pei Yang, then lowered her head to continue tidying the yarn. Why was the yarn so tangled? No matter how she tried, she couldn't straighten it. Originally, she and Si Tian could have easily straightened it quickly by having one hold the yarn while the other twirled it.
"Let me help you." Seeing that Xu Jiayue didn't react, Pei Yang took the initiative to pick out the loose thread, held it, and held it up in front of her.
Xu Jiayue was stunned. Si Tian was always like this.
She slowly wrapped the yarn around his hand, and as she got the hang of it, she wrapped it faster and faster until she had finished wrapping the yarn of that color.
"Shall we eat something before we continue?" Pei Yang said softly to Jia Yue.
Xu Jiayue shook her head and continued working on the yarn.
"Xu Jiayue, is this really a good thing? Do you think your brother and Sitian want to see you like this? None of us blame you; this was an accident!" Pei Yang saw her standing there in a daze and grabbed her shoulders. "Isn't having a brother like this enough for the family? Do you want to make your aunt and uncle worry about you? Be sensible and grow up quickly!"
"It's my fault, it's my fault..." Xu Jiayue's lips trembled, pale, and she felt empty inside if she didn't do something.
Pei Yang had come many times and said many words of advice, but she remained the same.
He finally lost his temper and with a swift motion, knocked her yarn basket to the ground.
"What are you doing!" Xu Jiayue hurriedly squatted down to pick it up, her leg still in a cast.
Pei Yang grabbed her, preventing her from bending down. Xu Jiayue struggled frantically, but Pei Yang held her tightly.
Xu Jiayue bit his arm with all her might, her spring clothes thin, and the taste of blood filled her mouth.
