"I know, I know, don't worry." Li Yinan's eyes reddened as he gripped Gu Linping's hand tightly.
Gu Linping could no longer respond. She slowly closed her eyes, and her hands fell limply to her sides.
"Aunt Gu!" Li Yinan growled in a low voice, closed his eyes, and tears rolled down his cheeks.
Li Yiqing and Li Yinuo rushed to the edge of the bed, grabbed the brocade quilt covering Gu Linping, and burst into tears.
Ni Sitian was walking away when she heard their crying. She paused slightly, turned her head to look at the dazzling sunlight outside the window, and her eyes stung a little.
The sun is really strong today; it hurts my eyes.
Ni Sitian withdrew her gaze, closed her eyes, let them rest for a moment before opening them again, and walked away.
Gu Linping's funeral was held seven days later. The temperature dropped sharply that day, and the sky was gloomy, looking like it was going to rain, but it never did.
In accordance with Lin Ping's wishes before her death, she was not buried next to Li Chongtian's cemetery, but at another location. This was because Li Chongtian already had Li Yinan's mother, his first wife, by his side.
Even after the funeral, the Li family was never able to shake off the grief of the mistress's passing.
Even the usually cheerful Li Yiqing lost her smile; her chubby little face was thinning into a V-shaped face. And Li Yinuo's health deteriorated further after that, and he remained bedridden.
Li Yinan is too busy with work and there are times when he can't take care of her, so he came to ask her to spend some time with Li Yinuo.
Ni Sitian didn't want to get too involved with the Li family, but now she needed Li Yinan to get back to Yihai. Otherwise, without identification, she wouldn't even be able to leave the Li family's house.
So after she negotiated the terms with him, she would spend an hour with Li Yinuo every day.
Just as Li Yiqing described, Li Yinuo was extremely well-behaved and quiet, and she called her "sister" very affectionately.
Ni Sitian accompanied him out of business, and they didn't have much to say to each other. It was like going to and from get off work, and the time she came and went was very fixed. She always went in at three o'clock in the afternoon and came out at four o'clock.
Only on this day, when I arrived a little early, did I see Li Yinuo sticking a needle into her arm as soon as I opened the door.
She was slightly taken aback when she saw that his arm was covered in needle marks.
"Sister." When Li Yinuo saw Ni Sitian arrive, she quickly removed the needle and put it away.
Ni Sitian went in to take a look. Next to him was a small medicine box with many needles inside.
She has a particular fear of needles, and seeing Li Yinuo so calmly giving himself an injection, she couldn't help but ask, "What's going on?"
“It’s insulin, I have to inject it every day.” Li Yinuo pulled down her sleeve, then looked up and gave a sweet smile: “Don’t worry, sister, I’m used to it.”
Ni Sitian pursed her lips, said nothing more, and sat down on the chair next to her.
It's quite interesting, actually. She developed a fear of injections after being pricked by He Yuncui with needles, while her half-brother, who was from the same mother but different father, was so numb from being pricked that he could calmly give himself injections.
After spending time with Li Yinuo as usual, she opened the door and went out, where she met Li Yinan on the corridor.
“Three months are almost up. Was your so-called toxin observation period just a delaying tactic to fool me?” Ni Sitian said calmly to Li Yinan.
Li Yinan did not deny it. She had fully recovered, and he had nothing to hide: "I promised Aunt Gu that I would take care of you and I wouldn't watch you make a mistake."
