Upon hearing the sound, Xu Tingchuan's breath caught in his throat, and he suddenly turned around.
A woman wearing an apricot-colored wide-brimmed hat and a pair of ultra-dark sunglasses walked down the steps one by one. Her fitted English-style umbrella coat accentuated her slender waist. Her movements were slow and elegant, as if she had stepped out of an old movie and was a noble lady.
“Miss He, even if you’re eager to be my son’s stepmother, you don’t have to curse me to die.” Ni Sitian took off the sunglasses that covered most of her face, smiled faintly, and looked at the girl next to Xu Tingchuan.
The girl's eyes widened in astonishment, as if she had seen a ghost. She had seen Ni Sitian at a banquet before, so she recognized her face. However, it was no secret that Ni Sitian had died in childbirth earlier this year, since a funeral had already been held!
"You, you, you..." Miss He took several steps back, her voice trembling.
As Ni Sitian walked in, she turned and ran away as if fleeing in panic.
Ni Sitian stopped in her tracks, her smile vanished completely, and without even glancing at Xu Tingchuan, she turned to leave.
Xu Tingchuan snapped out of his shock and joy, and in a few quick steps grabbed her, pulled her back abruptly, and drew her into his arms, his heart pounding in his chest.
Ni Sitian was pulled into his arms, her hat fell off, and the wind blew wildly through her long hair and skirt.
This scene seemed to freeze the world, leaving everyone breathless.
Xu Tingchuan held her tightly, as if he wanted to meld her into his very bones, so tightly that she could hardly breathe.
Ni Sitian felt as if a drop of rain had fallen on her head, even though it was a sunny day with a strong wind. She realized what the wetness was, and she raised her arms to wrap around his waist.
In just ten months, he lost a lot of weight.
Xu Tingchuan thought the same thing; the woman in his arms was so slender.
The two embraced, each with a thousand words in their hearts, yet unsure which to say first.
Finally, Ni Sitian spoke first. Before she could even utter a sound, her nose stung with tears, and she complained, "If I had known that I would have to deal with your unwanted suitors as soon as I came back, I wouldn't have come back."
She deliberately ignored him and walked away out of spite.
Xu Tingchuan's heart was still pounding from the joy of regaining what he had lost, and he didn't respond to her words for a long time.
"Are you trying to suffocate me?" Ni Sitian complained coquettishly, almost unable to breathe, while pinching him with her hand.
Xu Tingchuan couldn't bear to hear her say the word "death." He released her from his arms and repeatedly confirmed that she was safe and sound, completely in front of him, and no longer his illusion.
Ni Sitian looked up at his face. He had indeed lost a lot of weight, and his face was more angular, but he seemed even more aloof and unapproachable.
"Why aren't you saying anything? Don't you want to see me?" Ni Sitian pouted and pretended to turn around and leave.
Xu Tingchuan suddenly pulled her back into his arms, buried his head in her hair, and deeply inhaled her fragrance. His throat moved slightly, but he couldn't utter a word.
She's back!
His sweetheart is back!
He could feel her very clearly!
No longer an illusion, but a living, breathing woman!
Her touch, her voice, her scent, everything about her!
She's back!
His wife is back!
Ni Sitian felt the tremor in Xu Tingchuan's chest. In fact, she felt the same way as him. She missed him just as much and couldn't wait to get to his side as soon as she got off the plane.
