Chapter 1172 Winter Warmth

Xu Jiayue parked her car on the street next to Wanxing Road, and could hear the excitement of the carnival from afar.

She got off the bus with her lunchbox in her hand, and as she walked over, she saw the whole street brightly lit, with parade floats, people dressed in all sorts of strange clothes, music, dancing, beer, and fireworks—it was all a young people's carnival.

Just as Xu Jiayue was about to go in to find Pei Yang, someone covered her mouth from behind and dragged her to a secluded spot.

"Ugh..." She struggled, trying to stomp backward with her foot, but he dodged it.

"Is all you can do to step on someone's feet?" Pei Yang released her, raising his eyebrows and smiling.

"Why are you scaring me!" Xu Jiayue raised her leg and kicked him.

She thought Pei Yang would nimbly dodge again, but unexpectedly she kicked him squarely.

"Why didn't you dodge?!" Her boots today were covered in large studs on the outside; a kick like that would hurt terribly.

Pei Yang did not answer, his eyes fixed on Xu Jiayue's face. Unlike the lively atmosphere around them, it was somewhat dim here, with only one street lamp.

Xu Jiayue felt uncomfortable being stared at for so long, and said fiercely, "Why are you looking at me?"

Pei Yang smiled, his eyes reflecting the light and starlight, making them appear especially bright. "Because you are beautiful."

"Go use those words to coax your girls." Xu Jiayue curled her lips, not taking Pei Yang's words seriously, because he seemed like the type who was very good at coaxing girls.

“I’ve only ever said that to you,” Pei Yang said, unusually serious.

"Who would believe that?" Xu Jiayue lowered her head, not wanting to continue arguing with him about this topic, and walked to a bench under a streetlamp to sit down.

Pei Yang sat down and watched as she took the lunchbox out of the bag and handed it to him. He looked at her with some surprise.

"There were some leftover dumplings at home, so I brought them over for you." Xu Jiayue handed over the chopsticks as well, saying, "I added vinegar and soy sauce to the soup."

"Did you make these?" Pei Yang opened the container, and the aroma of vinegar from the dumplings wafted out, with steam rising from the insulated box.

"Hmm." Xu Jiayue nodded, knowing he was always a picky eater, and declared, "I'm warning you, you're not allowed to say it's not good."

Pei Yang smiled, holding the lunchbox, picked up a dumpling, and ate it slowly, chewing and swallowing.

Xu Jiayue didn't expect to be praised by him. He was the kind of person who would be picky about even the cooking of a Michelin three-star chef. As long as he could swallow the food, that was enough.

He ate one piece and put the lunchbox down. Xu Jiayue frowned slightly when she saw this.

Pei Yang untied his scarf and wrapped it around Xu Jiayue's neck, saying, "I'm afraid it will get wet, so you can hold it for me."

Xu Jiayue was stunned for a moment, then saw him pick up the lunchbox again and continue eating with his head down.

It wasn't that he was afraid of getting the drops on her; he clearly wanted to tie the scarf for her but was afraid of being rejected, so he said he would hold it for her. Did he think she was too stupid to see through it? He even went so far as to circle her twice.

Xu Jiayue lowered her head slightly. The cashmere scarf was warm from his body heat and had a faint smell of tobacco.

He must have smoked half an hour ago. During the Lunar New Year, he came here alone, not participating in the festivities, just watching the lively scene from afar. Did he think he was the melancholic male protagonist of a cheesy youth movie?

After silently complaining in her heart, she looked up at Pei Yang, who was blowing on the dumplings to cool them before putting them in his mouth. His profile was shrouded in smoke, making him look somewhat hazy. His quiet demeanor really did resemble that of a movie male lead.
