Xiang Zhilan frowned slightly, wondering what conditions he would propose.
Shen Muzhi straightened up, took a step closer to Xiang Zhilan, lowered his eyes to stare intently at her, and said in a low voice, "I need you to promise me that you will not have any feelings for Luo Che beyond friendship. He is Xiao Kui's godfather, and can only be her godfather. Do you agree?"
Xiang Zhilan was slightly taken aback. She hadn't expected him to make such a request. He really was... prepared for a rainy day.
He knew perfectly well that Luo Che had feelings for her, and this was to completely cut off any possibility of a relationship developing between Luo Che and her.
Moreover, if she were to be so frank with Luo Che, it would be as if she were asking Luo Che to choose between Xiao Kui and her.
"Do you agree?" Shen Muzhi narrowed his eyes slightly and asked again.
"I have no problem with it, but I should at least ask A-Che's opinion." Xiang Zhilan felt that Luo Che would most likely agree. He doted on Xiao Kui so much, almost treating her like his own child. It wasn't just a matter of loving someone because of them.
"Also, you're not allowed to call him that so intimately." Shen Muzhi frowned when he heard her call him that.
Xiang Zhilan twitched the corner of her mouth. "Mr. Shen is still as domineering as ever, but don't forget that I only agreed to one condition, not this one."
She put down the cup and walked out of the kitchen.
Shen Muzhi's eyes darkened slightly. She had never addressed him so intimately or naturally before, and rarely even called him Muzhi. She only occasionally teased him by calling him Xiaobao, following his mother's lead.
Xiang Zhilan glanced back at Shen Muzhi, who was still standing in the kitchen with a rather unpleasant expression, then turned back to her lips with a slight pursing.
Soon it was dinner time, and Xiao Kui woke up and, not seeing Luo Che, made a fuss for a while.
Xiang Zhilan finally managed to coax her into a good mood, and she and Hengheng played with fishing toys in the living room.
"I'll cook." Shen Muzhi knew that Xiao Kui would have a hard time getting close to him for a while, so he let Xiang Zhilan stay with the children.
Xiang Zhilan nodded, but she remembered that he had once tried to cook for her, but ended up with his hands covered in cuts and the food wasn't very good. A little worried, she asked, "Are you sure you can do it?"
"No problem." Shen Muzhi tied on his apron, closed the glass door to the kitchen, and began preparing to cook.
Xiang Zhilan played with the children, glancing up every now and then with some concern. His movements were as clumsy as ever. The young master was indeed the young master; he probably couldn't even cook those few dishes he learned two and a half years ago.
She should probably prepare to order takeout tonight.
About an hour later, it got completely dark outside, and the warm yellow light inside made the room feel cozy.
When Shen Muzhi brought out the prepared food, Xiang Zhilan was taken aback.
She hadn't expected that his clumsy movements would actually turn out so well; the color and aroma were quite nice, but she wondered what it tasted like.
Shen Muzhi arranged the dishes, lifted Hengheng onto the high chair, and gave him a spoon.
Xiang Zhilan also helped Xiao Kui sit down. She tried it first. Although the taste was not as good as hers, it was still palatable. Moreover, he had specially cooked the rice to be softer.
She remembered that he liked his food to be on the firmer side, and the reason she cooked it that way was probably because she had noticed that the food at the children's restaurant was softer today, making it easier for the children to digest.
"Eat up." Xiang Zhilan handed the spoon to Xiao Kui, letting her eat on her own.
"There are no baby octopuses." Xiao Kui poked at her rice and pouted.
Shen Muzhi looked at Zhi Lan and explained, "Luo Che will stew the radish until it looks like an octopus."
