Chapter 1276 A Little Scared

Xiang Zhilan was stunned for a moment upon hearing this, and a very faint smile appeared on her lips.

He was indeed dropping her off, not picking up Bai Yutong.

After that, neither of them spoke, but neither of them could sleep.

To be honest, Xiang Zhilan is still shaken by what happened. After all, someone she once liked and knew was shot dead right in front of her, and the image of him convulsing before his death is still vivid in her mind. She's afraid she'll have nightmares about it even when she falls asleep.

Shen Muzhi couldn't sleep because this position was uncomfortable. He didn't like sleeping on his stomach, but his back was badly injured, and the doctor had instructed him not to lie on his back or side. Tonight, he could only lie on his stomach like this.

Xiang Zhilan reached out and dimmed the bedside lamp, then asked in a low voice, "Are you asleep?"

Shen Muzhi had assumed she was asleep by now, but then he noticed she was sitting in a chair. He turned around and saw that the chair wasn't very comfortable. Since it was a single room and there wasn't an extra bed, he asked, "Would you like to come up and sleep here?"

"No, no need." Xiang Zhilan quickly refused. What would it mean to share a bed with him?

"I can't touch you in my current state, so don't worry about me having ulterior motives." Her rejection made Shen Muzhi's tone somewhat harsh.

"That's not what I'm worried about," Xiang Zhilan muttered, inwardly thinking that there was no reason for ex-husbands and ex-wives to lie together, but she said tactfully, "I can't sleep tonight."

Shen Muzhi stared at her face, which was still somewhat pale, and suddenly realized what he was doing. He whispered, "Are you afraid?"

Xiang Zhilan nodded. How could she not be afraid? She was different from him. His father was a soldier and his mother was a rich young lady. This kind of thing should be nothing to him, but it was different for her. She had never experienced such a bloody thing before.

Two years ago, he and Li Rui clashed. It was pitch black then, and she had been hanging for so long that she didn't pay much attention to the situation. Besides, she didn't know Li Rui's group.

Feng Jingxian was shot through the temple in such a bright place, a place she knew so well, less than a meter away. She saw it clearly and still remembers the wound that bullet caused to his temple.

"I wonder how Hengheng and Xiaokui are doing." Xiang Zhilan was actually most worried about the two children. She wondered if they would believe the bloody and terrible scene just now when it was explained as a robbery game.

“Don’t worry, Mom and Dad will make them feel better. When I was little, I went to my grandpa’s house and we ran into a gang fight. One of them pointed an axe at me. After Mom told me the story, I still slept very well that night. I forgot about it in a few days and even asked when we could play that game again.” Shen Muzhi comforted Xiang Zhilan with his own experience, saying, “They are my children. They won’t be scared by such a small thing.”

Xiang Zhilan couldn't help but roll her eyes at him. This wasn't some glorious deed; there was no need to give an example.

Shen Muzhi reached out his uninjured left hand and grasped Xiang Zhilan's hand, which was resting on her knee. He squeezed it tightly and asked in a low voice, "Aren't you a little more afraid of going through this?"

Xiang Zhilan looked down at his hand. She noticed that he was wearing their wedding ring on his ring finger again, even though they were already divorced.

She tried to pull away, but he held on tightly.

His palms had some thin calluses, but they were wide and warm, which did give people a sense of security.
