Xiang Zhilan returned to the ocean tunnel. Fortunately, the lights were dim, so Luo Che and the children couldn't see that her eyes were red.
After staying for a long time, the two children were still reluctant to part, but time was running out.
Xiang Zhilan and Luo Che each carried one of them and left, walking to a bright place outside.
Hengheng hugged Xiang Zhilan's neck and said, "Mom, let's bring Dad next time."
Xiang Zhilan froze. Without Ying Hengheng's words, she didn't want to break her promise to the child again. What difference would that make from Shen Muzhi?
"Daddy's here," Xiao Kui suddenly said, her voice still childish. "He's behind us."
Xiang Zhilan looked at Xiao Kui in surprise. Xiao Kui had actually seen him too?
"No." Hengheng looked behind her but didn't see Shen Muzhi.
“Yes,” Xiao Kui said confidently. “I saw my dad when I saw the giraffe, and he was still like that.”
Then Xiao Kui imitated Shen Muzhi's shushing gesture, and Xiang Zhilan saw that Xiao Kui's imitation was perfect.
"You're lying. Dad's here, why isn't he with us?" Hengheng didn't believe Shen Muzhi would hide from them.
"I didn't lie, I didn't lie!" Xiao Kui pouted angrily, "Brother is bad!"
"Alright, alright, stop arguing." Luo Che immediately stepped in to stop them. He could tell from Xiang Zhilan's expression that Xiao Kui was probably right, so he changed the subject and talked about the panda rice balls at the restaurant at noon.
When the two of them talked about food, they stopped arguing.
The four of them left the zoo and returned to the car, where the two younger children fell asleep almost immediately.
Luo Che glanced at the rearview mirror. Xiang Zhilan had been quiet the whole time. He spoke softly, "Did you see him too? You were acting strangely at the aquarium. Did you two have a fight?"
"It wasn't an argument." Xiang Zhilan simply felt hopeless about that man.
Seeing that she didn't want to say anything more, Luo Che stopped talking.
The car drove smoothly to the apartment building. The two children were still asleep. Luo Che turned to look at Zhi Lan and said seriously, "No matter what happens, I will always stand by your side. Cheer up, this isn't like you anymore."
Xiang Zhilan felt warm upon hearing his words and smiled slightly: "Thank you, A-Che."
“You’ve thanked me so many times today, but this is the best one.” Luo Che could sense the slight difference in the situation, and he finally breathed a sigh of relief: “I thought I had offended you somehow, and you seemed to have become much more distant from me.”
"Uh," Xiang Zhilan was slightly taken aback, feeling very embarrassed to him, but it was really uncomfortable to keep that matter to herself, so it was better to say it out loud.
After thinking it through, she pursed her lips and looked at Luo Che, saying, "Actually, after running into you and Su Yan that day, I recalled some unpleasant things. My relationship with Su Yan is a bit special; it seems like many people see me as a substitute for her. So I've been wondering if it's because I look similar to the former Su Yan that you're doing this..."
"What are you thinking?" Luo Che shook his head and smiled, saying in utter incomprehension, "How do you and Su Yan look alike? You two are completely different. How can you have such a misconception? Are people who think of you as a substitute stupid?"
"Don't you think it looks like it?" Xiang Zhilan didn't expect him to react this way.
“Of course it doesn’t look like it.” Luo Che had an expression that said, “What’s there to question?” and then beckoned her to lean over.
Xiang Zhilan leaned closer in puzzlement, and Luo Che lowered his voice: "I'll tell you quietly, but don't tell Su Yan, I think you're much prettier than her."
