Xiang Zhilan returned in the evening and did not see Shen Muzhi and the children when she entered the house.
"The master said that the mistress will know when she goes to the bedroom," Butler Chen said with a smile.
Xiang Zhilan went upstairs and opened the bedroom door to see a plastic mannequin wearing a light red evening gown and a diamond necklace.
"Shen Muzhi?" she called as she walked in, but she didn't see Shen Muzhi. Instead, she saw a card on the coffee table.
She reached out, picked it up, opened it, and read that it told her to change into this dress.
Xiang Zhilan didn't quite understand what he was up to. Was he nervous because he was going to get the test results tomorrow and wanted to relax?
She took out her phone and dialed his number, but the call didn't go through. So she took off the model's dress, went into the bathroom to change, lightly brushed her eyebrows, and put on a simple and elegant makeup.
After putting together an outfit, I put on my coat, grabbed my handbag, and went downstairs.
"Madam, please get in the car." Ah Chao was dressed in a black suit, looking quite formal.
Xiang Zhilan sat in the back seat of the Bentley, looked at A-Chao starting the car, and asked, "Where are we going?"
"The master instructed that I cannot say," Ah Chao replied with a smile.
Xiang Zhilan found it even stranger; this scene was too much like a marriage proposal scene in a TV drama.
Thinking of this, she shook her head slightly. How could that be? Shen Muzhi had just pushed them away not long ago because he couldn't give her and the children a future. There must be something else worth celebrating.
Oh well, since we're here, we might as well make the best of it.
Xiang Zhilan didn't think much of it and watched as A-Chao drove the car to the Regent Hotel.
This was the place where they first met, and she remembered it vividly. Back then, she wondered if the man with the gloomy face who said he wanted to take care of her was crazy.
She genuinely disliked him back then, but as time has passed, that feeling seems like a distant memory.
Xiang Zhilan entered the Regent Hotel, and the head waiter led her to the banquet hall by elevator.
Two waiters standing at the door pushed the door open together.
He bent down to help Xiang Zhilan take off her coat and invited her inside.
Xiang Zhilan's high heels landed steadily on the thick carpet as she gracefully walked in.
In the huge banquet hall, there was only one square table with exquisite tableware on it.
Shen Muzhi sat there, wearing a well-made black suit that looked somewhat familiar.
She smiled faintly at him and walked closer. He got up and pulled out a chair for her.
"You look beautiful today," Shen Muzhi complimented sincerely.
"You're handsome too," Xiang Zhilan smiled. "So now you can tell me why I went to all that trouble to come out for dinner, right?"
"You really don't know?" Shen Muzhi thought she would remember something on the way here.
"Should I know this?" Xiang Zhilan was still completely confused.
"It's okay, you'll find out later anyway." Shen Muzhi pressed a button on the table.
After a while, two men in tailcoats walked in, one holding a violin and the other sitting down at the piano.
As the melodious music began to play, Xiang Zhilan, who didn't know much about classical music, could tell it was a cheerful piece.
She smiled at Shen Muzhi, who then pressed the button again, and the lights dimmed.
The door opened, the music changed tune, and two children's voices rang out: "Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you..."
As the song began, a waiter pushed in a cake with lit candles, and Hengheng and Xiaokui walked on either side, dressed in tiny evening gowns, looking very cute.
