Ni Sitian buried her face in Xu Tingchuan's body and cried for a long time, until his shirt was soaked with sweat.
She sobbed slowly, took a few breaths, and stopped crying.
After calming down, she felt a little embarrassed when she saw that Xu Tingchuan's shirt was covered in her tears and snot, so she raised her hand and wiped her tears haphazardly.
Xu Tingchuan removed her hand, cupped her face, gently wiped away her tears with his thumb, and softly comforted her, "It's alright, it's all over now, don't cry."
Ni Sitian sniffled, her voice hoarse as she sobbed, "I'm so scared..."
Xu Tingchuan hugged her tighter and patted her back to comfort her. The thought of a loved one falling from a building in front of him was terrifying, let alone for Ni Sitian. It was only natural that she was so frightened by such a shocking scene.
“It’s all in the past, it’s all in the past,” he soothed softly. “Don’t be afraid, I’m here, I’ll stay with you.”
Ni Sitian cried for a while longer before stopping her tears. She stepped out of Xu Tingchuan's arms and said in a hoarse voice, "Xu Tingchuan, let's just stay like this."
Xu Tingchuan didn't understand and looked up at her.
Ni Sitian's throat bobbed slightly, her eyelashes trembled, and she said in a low, hoarse voice, "Like you said before, we don't need love, we just want to live a good life together."
Xu Tingchuan paused for a moment, his dark eyes becoming unfathomable. He stared into her eyes without saying a word.
He suddenly realized that his words at his wedding had dug a huge hole for him, and now he had finally buried himself in it.
Her words, "I don't want love," stung his heart.
He then realized that he might not be satisfied with just her being his wife; he wanted something else from her.
"Don't overthink it." He raised his hand and stroked her cheek, avoiding the topic.
Ni Sitian didn't notice his abnormality. She sniffed again, rested her forehead on Xu Tingchuan's shoulder, and slowly calmed down.
When I looked up again, my eyes were just red and swollen, but no more tears were flowing.
Facing Xu Tingchuan, she felt embarrassed about her earlier lapse in composure and opened her mouth, but didn't know what to say.
At this moment, she noticed that Xu Tingchuan's hair was a little messy and his forehead was covered in sweat. He must have rushed over in a hurry. Suddenly, her nose tingled and she felt a surge of emotion.
"I'm sorry for making you worry," Ni Sitian said, pursing her lips.
"Silly girl." Xu Tingchuan said helplessly, ruffling her hair. He noticed her injured arm, picked it up to examine it, and frowned. "How did this happen?"
"I accidentally scraped my skin, but I've already taken care of it." Ni Sitian didn't want him to worry, so she didn't mention that she had almost fallen over the railing.
Xu Tingchuan felt a pang of sympathy. Her skin was exceptionally fair, and the wound on her arm looked quite serious. He lowered his head and gently blew on her wound.
After being carefully cared for by him, Ni Sitian's eyes became sore again.
"Does it hurt a lot?" Xu Tingchuan looked up at her and saw tears welling up in her eyes again, feeling very distressed and worried.
Ni Sitian felt a little better; the burning pain from when she first scraped her skin was long gone, but she felt a little vulnerable and wanted to act spoiled with Xu Tingchuan.
Xu Tingchuan lowered his head and blew on her wound again, gently coaxing her, "It doesn't hurt anymore."
In a daze, Ni Sitian seemed to recall someone else comforting her like that before, saying, "It doesn't hurt, it doesn't hurt, the pain will fly away."
But she could no longer remember what that person looked like. Looking down at Xu Tingchuan, he seemed to overlap with that blurry image.
