Chapter 1414 Twilight's Honesty

Xiang Zhilan understood after just one glance. He actually knew, but he just didn't want her to know, so he pretended that nothing was wrong.

Is he planning to do what he did last time and not tell her?

Xiang Zhilan withdrew her gaze, lowered her head and drank another sip of chicken soup to warm up her body that had cooled down.

"This is free-range chicken, it's good for your health, eat more of it." Shen Muzhi scooped some meat from the soup and gave it to her.

"Mm." Xiang Zhilan didn't look up and continued eating.

Shen Muzhi was preoccupied with his own thoughts and didn't dwell on her changes, so he also kept his head down and ate his meal.

Xiang Zhilan had eaten half of her meal when her stomach started churning. She tried her best to suppress the feeling, put down her chopsticks, and said, "I'm full. I'm going upstairs to rest."

Shen Muzhi looked up and saw that she was experiencing discomfort during her pregnancy, so he didn't urge her to eat more. He thought he would ask the chef to make her something refreshing later.

Xiang Zhilan went upstairs and sat down at the computer. She opened the computer to look up information about patients who had undergone bone marrow transplantation three times. The success rate was indeed very low.

However, she saw a news item in the pop-up window that a pregnant nurse, in order to save a patient whose bone marrow had been matched, obtained the family's consent to have an abortion and later donated bone marrow to the patient.

The pregnant nurse and the patient were not related at all. Xiang Zhilan frowned and scrolled down to read the news comments.

The comments were almost unanimously critical of the nurse, accusing her of being a "saintly mother" or suggesting she received a lot of money through conspiracy theories. Only a few expressed understanding, saying they certainly couldn't do the same if it happened to them.

There is no right or wrong in this matter, it's just a matter of how to choose. The nurse said she didn't think she was great, but she could still get pregnant again. The teenage girl in front of her was gone, and that was that. Her job was to save lives and heal the wounded, and she couldn't just stand by and watch someone die.

Xiang Zhilan closed the webpage, gripped the mouse tightly, her mind becoming increasingly agitated, and finally shut down the computer.

Upon hearing the slap sound, Shen Muzhi walked over and looked at Zhi Lan, whose face was tense, and asked with concern, "What's wrong?"

Xiang Zhilan looked up at him, a mixture of emotions swirling in her dark eyes. She stood up, walked over, and stopped in front of him, saying, "Shen Muzhi, you..."

Before she could finish speaking, he pulled her into his arms and held her tightly. He said in a deep voice, "Lanlan, I have something to tell you."

He rarely called her that; he usually only did so in bed or during their intimate moments.

She seemed to guess what he was going to say, and looked up at him, waiting for him to speak.

“Before the meal, Tingchuan called and told me…” Shen Muzhi paused, pursed his lips, “Su Yan’s illness has relapsed.”

He told her, and this time he didn't hide it from her. She looked at him with a complicated expression.

"Don't misunderstand, I'm telling you not because I want you to do anything for her." Shen Muzhi was afraid she would overthink and misunderstand again. He had lost her before and wouldn't make the same mistake again.

"I know." She just didn't expect him to tell her so quickly; she thought he would hesitate and struggle with it for at least two days.

"I will try to find a suitable match for her. I will talk to Xin Zikai tomorrow and persuade her to be hospitalized." Shen Muzhi did hesitate a bit during dinner about how to tell Xiang Zhilan, but he had thought it through. Honesty is more important between husband and wife, and he wanted to tell her his thoughts.

"Didn't you ever think about letting me..." Xiang Zhilan was only halfway through her sentence when he pressed his finger to her lips.
