Chapter 142 Her Nightmare

Ni Sitian knew that Xu Tingchuan was trying to comfort her, but she still felt a little better.

"Why isn't your hair completely dry yet? It's so late, be careful not to catch a cold." Xu Tingchuan wanted to distract her, so he saw her pull him up, push him to sit on the dressing table, and take a hairdryer to dry her hair.

Ni Sitian let him blow-dry her hair, putting aside all the unhappiness of the day for the time being.

Xu Tingchuan had never blow-dried a girl's hair before, and Ni Sitian had hair that was almost waist-length.

His technique was very clumsy, but his movements were gentle, carefully drying each strand of hair.

Ni Sitian's hair is beautiful, jet black and shiny, and naturally smooth.

After he finished blowing, he bent down and kissed her head, smiling gently, "Alright, get some rest."

Ni Sitian nodded, got up, walked to the bedside, lifted the covers, and got into bed.

Xu Tingchuan lay down beside her, put his arm around her, turned off the light, and whispered, "Sleep well, goodnight."

Ni Sitian leaned her head close to his chest and slowly closed her eyes.

She was indeed tired after a long day, and fell asleep quickly.

But I was awakened by a nightmare in the middle of the night!

She screamed and sat bolt upright!

Xu Tingchuan woke up shortly after, sat up immediately, and turned on the light.

Seeing that Ni Sitian was covered in cold sweat, he reached out and wiped it off for her, brushed the strands of hair stuck to her forehead, gently stroked her face, and asked softly, "Did you have a nightmare?"

Ni Sitian's eyes still showed fear and lingering dread. She threw herself into Xu Tingchuan's arms and hugged him tightly.

She hadn't dreamt of the fire when she was five for a long time, but today she dreamt of every detail very clearly.

She was locked inside the house, and her cries for help were useless. The fire was huge, and thick smoke filled the room. She could barely breathe and had no other choice but to cry.

Later, the door panel burned down, and flames shot into the room. She hid under the table in fear.

A short while later, she saw the woman carrying Ni Ziqi out of the room and fleeing for her life. She cried out to her, begging for help.

But the woman glanced at her and pretended not to see her, then led Ni Ziqi out of the fire.

No matter how much she cried and begged for help, she seemed to receive no response, and eventually she was overcome by the thick smoke.

If it weren't for that timely rainstorm and the firefighters' rescue, she would probably have perished in the fire.

"It's alright, it's alright, I'm here." Xu Tingchuan didn't know what had made her so scared, her whole body was trembling and she was sweating profusely. He could only gently pat her back to comfort her.

Ni Sitian clung tightly to his waist, like a drowning person clinging to a piece of driftwood, but her body still trembled with fear.

"Don't be afraid, don't be afraid, I'm with you," Xu Tingchuan murmured repeatedly to comfort her.

After a long while, Ni Sitian slowly recovered from the nightmare, her body gradually stopped trembling, and she leaned her head on Xu Tingchuan's chest, weakly saying, "I dreamt of something really scary."

Xu Tingchuan stroked her back and said softly, "Dreams and reality are opposites. Don't be afraid, it's all over now."

Ni Sitian opened her mouth, then closed it again, and nodded slightly.

When she was five years old, her mother tried to burn her to death in a fire. She never told anyone about this, including Xiang Zhilan.

This is the deepest and most painful scar in her heart. She doesn't want anyone to know that she was once abandoned by her own mother.

"Sleep a little longer." Xu Tingchuan glanced at the alarm clock; it was only a little past four. He then coaxed Ni Sitian to lie down.

After lying back down, Ni Sitian didn't close her eyes immediately. She held Xu Tingchuan's hand, stared at his face, and said in a hoarse voice, "I can't sleep. Can you tell me a story?"
