Chapter 1489 Thriving

Su Yan's funeral was held seven days later.

It was a day at the end of February. The weather should have been gradually warming up, but suddenly it started snowing heavily. The pure white snowflakes covered the newly erected tombstone.

It's unclear how Xu Tingchuan and Shen Muzhi persuaded Xin Zikai, but that day Xin Zikai finally stepped out of the room and joined them in seeing Su Yan off on her final journey.

He silently held Xin Chun's hand, watching as each friend presented Su Yan with her favorite daisies, mechanically returning the gesture.

After putting the flowers down, Ni Sitian walked over to Xiao Chun, squatted down, and patted her head.

Xin Chun's eyes were red and swollen, her lips were moving as she tried to hold back her tears, and her appearance was so pitiful that it made people feel sorry for her.

Ni Sitian couldn't bear to see this. This child was sensitive and had already asked them about Su Yan after not seeing her for three days.

There was no way to hide this from Xin Chun, so in the end she was the one who told him.

Xin Chun cried in her arms all afternoon yesterday, until her voice became hoarse.

After the funeral, the guests left down the mountain one by one, their faces filled with sorrow.

Ni Sitian and the others stayed behind. Xin Zikai asked Xiang Zhilan to take Xin Chun back first, as he wanted someone to keep Su Yan company at the cemetery.

No one said much; they took the children down the mountain first.

As Ni Sitian led Xin Chun down the road, she couldn't help but turn back to look at the tombstone. She saw Xin Zikai sitting and leaning against the tombstone, talking to Su Yan.

She snapped out of her reverie and sighed softly. So many joys and sorrows happen in this world every day; it is extremely difficult to stay together until the end.

She glanced at Xu Tingchuan beside her, feeling grateful and fortunate for her good luck.

As if he knew what she was thinking, Xu Tingchuan put his arm around her and gently squeezed her shoulder, giving her a sense of security.

After descending the mountain, Ni Sitian suggested that Xin Chun go back to her house first, since Zhi Lan already had two children and was now pregnant, which made it inconvenient for her.

Finally, they asked Xin Chun for her opinion, and Xin Chun nodded in agreement.

So, Xu Tingchuan and Ni Sitian took Xin Chun home.

Unexpectedly, Xin Zikai came to their house the next day, saying he wanted to take Xiao Chun back.

“When I was sorting through Ayan’s belongings, I found a letter she left behind. She knew her health was failing and had already arranged an education fund for Xiaochun and hired a nanny to take care of her. Actually, even if she hadn’t done these things, I would have done them. Xiaochun called me Dad, and I will always be her father in this life,” Xin Zikai said to Ni Sitian and the others.

Seeing that he was so willing to raise Xiao Chun, Ni Sitian was happy for Xiao Chun.

From any perspective, this is a good thing. Xin Zikai has children to raise, so he won't be so depressed, and Xiao Chun has a father, so she can't be considered an orphan.

This is already the best possible outcome.

Ni Sitian packed Xiao Chun's small backpack and handed her over to Xin Zikai.

Xin Chun remained quiet and obediently followed Xin Zikai out.

The shadow cast by this incident lingered into March.

After the sixth day of the third lunar month, Tuantuan's birthday, the weather began to warm up, and tender green buds sprouted from the dry tree branches.

The kindergarten also started, and Xu Tingchuan and Ni Sitian watched Tuantuan walk in.

Tuantuan was reluctant to turn back and look at them, but Xiaokui pulled her along, and she joined a group of children wearing little yellow hats, surrounded by a thriving atmosphere.

Ni Sitian and Xu Tingchuan exchanged a glance, and a smile slowly curved their lips, every bit of happiness contained in that radiant smile.
