Chapter 1551, Side Story 061: A Self-Deprecating Laughter

Xu Ziyu's breath hitched slightly when he heard her words, which were as sharp as knives.

He has endured so many hardships over the past few years and finally made it back here.

Little did she know that these were all things of the past for her, and no longer so important.

"Luo Xikui, do you know what you're saying?" Xu Ziyu stared at her face, trying to see through her. She kept their photos in her wallet, yet she threw away the ring he gave her, and spoke such nonchalant and indifferent words. What was she thinking?

"Ziyu, I understand very well." Luo Xikui clenched her hands so tightly that her nails almost dug into her flesh, trying to keep her emotions from showing.

She looked at him and smiled faintly: "We were both young back then. I guess because we grew up together, I was more dependent on you than on my brother. I bet you were very upset back then. Even though you are two months younger than me, you always indulged me like my brother. I feel a little embarrassed thinking about it now."

Xu Ziyu heard her call him "brother" repeatedly, as if she were comparing their past relationship to that of her and Hengheng.

Is she now trying to shirk responsibility and attribute those past events to her childhood friendship with her brother?!

"Heh." He couldn't help but chuckle lightly.

He was mocking himself; he had rushed back day and night just to hear her say those words.

“Ziyu…” Looking at his expression, Luo Xikui felt as if her heart was being cut by a dull knife, as if she had wronged him. But hadn’t he never contacted her all these years?

When Xu Ziyu heard her address him tonight, it was even more distant than when she addressed Xiang Hengxi. Before, she would always hold his arm and call him "Tuan Tuan" or "Tuan Tuan" repeatedly. No matter how many times he corrected her, she refused to change. She even said that calling him "Tuan Tuan" was more intimate and that he should only allow her to call him that from now on.

"Let's go, I'll take you home." He turned around and strode towards the car that had been following them.

Luo Xikui followed, and Xu Ziyu opened the car door to wait for her.

She bent down and sat inside, intending to move over to make room for him, but the car door closed. He then walked to the passenger seat, opened the door, and got in.

"Uncle Zhang, let's go to the Shen family first," Xu Ziyu said.

The car drove forward, and Luo Xikui, sitting at this angle, could just see Xu Ziyu's profile.

His jawline was taut, which made him look like he wasn't in a good mood.

She knew he was angry with her, but did he really care that much about their youthful days? Wasn't she the one who was always chasing after him back then? He had never clearly stated anything; only the recording rabbit and the ring ambiguously defined their relationship.

Forget it, what's the point of digging deeper? They're destined to be apart anyway, so she decided not to think about it anymore.

Luo Xikui took a slow, gentle breath, then slowly exhaled, turning her head to look out the window.

Xu Ziyu looked up at her in the rearview mirror. She was looking at the scenery outside indifferently, as if nothing had happened.

So he had become a thing of the past in her heart. He had been hesitant about whether he should tell her about what happened back then, but now it seemed unnecessary. Otherwise, he would look like a pathetic wretch begging for mercy.

His pride wouldn't allow it; since he'd already kept it a secret for so many years, he might as well continue to keep it a secret.
