Xu Tingchuan stared into Ni Sitian's eyes, as if looking directly into her timid heart.
He knew that if he didn't take the first step, Ni Sitian probably wouldn't be able to seriously confront this issue.
He placed his hands on her shoulders, looked at her intently, and said in a clear and decisive voice, "I want it."
Ni Sitian's heart trembled at those three words. She stared at him blankly, unsure how to respond.
He said he wanted it so directly, his gaze fixed intently on her, leaving her no room to escape.
After a while, Ni Sitian finally calmed down, her heart pounding in panic, and she wanted to open the door and get out of the car.
But Xu Tingchuan didn't give her a chance. He pressed her between the car door and him with his arms, forcefully and aggressively asking, "Don't you still want love?"
Ni Sitian's heart raced, and she turned her head away somewhat evasively, replying in a weak voice, "I...I don't know."
Xu Tingchuan frowned slightly, raised his hand to pinch Ni Sitian's chin, looked straight at her, and said in a low voice, "What do you mean by 'I don't know'? Don't you like me? Or do you not want me to like you?"
Ni Sitian felt her heart pounding in her throat. She panicked and didn't know what to do. She blinked and her eyes suddenly welled up with tears.
Seeing how he had forced her into this state, Xu Tingchuan felt a pang of heartache. He released his grip on her chin, sat back upright in his chair, unlocked the car door, and said softly, "Go to work."
Looking at his indifferent profile, Ni Sitian felt a tightness in her chest. She had a premonition that if she got off the bus now, a thick wall would separate her from Xu Tingchuan.
"I, I..." Ni Sitian's mind went blank as she panicked, and she blurted out in a fluster, "You yourself said that we're just looking for each other's company, to live a mundane life, not to talk about love..."
Xu Tingchuan gave a self-deprecating twitch at the corner of his mouth; what he said was indeed true.
"Can't I regret it?" Xu Tingchuan said, somewhat annoyed.
Ni Sitian stared at him blankly, her eyes red.
Xu Tingchuan became even more irritated by her rabbit-like eyes. He leaned over, opened the car door, stuffed her bag into her arms, and shoved her out of the car.
Ni Sitian got off the ground, staggered a bit, and after regaining her balance, she saw that Xu Tingchuan had already started the car and driven into the traffic.
She tried to chase after it, but a Mercedes blocked her way.
Qin Mubei got out of the car and saw Ni Sitian with red eyes. He glanced at the Maybach that had driven away and asked with concern, "Did you have a fight with Mr. Xu?"
Ni Sitian saw that Xu Tingchuan's car had driven far away and she could no longer catch up.
She glared at Qin Mubei, then turned and walked towards the office building.
Qin Mubei followed her, handed her a handkerchief as they entered the elevator, and asked with concern, "Why do you look like you're about to cry? Did Mr. Xu bully you?"
Ni Sitian didn't even glance at him, her eyes fixed on the elevator floor display screen.
Qin Mubei awkwardly put the handkerchief back. Before he had enough strength, he dared not provoke Ni Sitian again. Wu Zhongcheng and his wife were a cautionary tale.
The elevator doors opened, and Ni Sitian stepped out. When she reached the company entrance, she took a few deep breaths to compose herself before entering.
She had initially thought Xiao Ya would reveal what happened last night, and she was worried that she would be treated differently.
But after she went in, she found that her worries were unnecessary. Xiao Ya didn't seem to have told anyone, and her colleagues still treated her as an intern doing odd jobs.
This relieved her greatly, and she began her work for the day.
