Luo Xikui's lips trembled, but she remained silent for a long while.
Xu Ziyu pulled her back into his arms, stroked the back of her head with his large hand, and gently kissed her temples.
He didn't want to tell her that he didn't mind, because that would make it seem like that incident made her incomplete. He didn't feel that she owed him anything, so how could he have the right to not mind?
To him, she was still herself, only she had experienced setbacks and matured a bit.
"Xu Ziyu, do you even understand what I said?" Luo Xikui's heart was filled with bitterness, like a churning river. She still couldn't believe it. She had made herself so clear, how could he not mind at all? Or did he simply not believe her?
“I know very well.” Xu Ziyu hugged her and said in a low, serious voice, “I know what I’m saying.”
Luo Xikui stood there, stunned, as he held her. She had always thought that his feelings for her were only slightly better than those between childhood sweethearts. She liked him so much, but he was always indifferent and even abandoned her to go to Germany.
She even thought that perhaps among all the girls he knew, he might like her the most, but this liking was probably far removed from love. She often worried that he might meet a girl he liked even more in Germany, and feared that he would discover that his feelings for her weren't love.
She never imagined that he felt so deeply for her, that he could accept such a past.
Or is it sympathy?
Luo Xikui lifted her head from his embrace and looked into his eyes.
Xu Ziyu looked down at her, his gaze suggesting a misunderstanding.
“It’s not pity.” He spoke directly, striking at her heart. He raised his hand and brushed her hair aside, his eyes softening for once, and whispered, “There’s something I’ve never told you…”
Knock knock knock!
The knocking interrupted him, and he frowned slightly.
A clear female voice came from outside: "Sister Xiaokui, are you ready? We're about to set off."
Luo Xikui got out of Xu Ziyu's arms and shouted towards the door, "I'm coming out right away."
Xu Ziyu frowned again as he watched Luo Xikui go to pack up the sheet music and violin.
“Um, you…” Luo Xi Kui pursed her lips. Why was he standing there motionless? She was going to leave, shouldn’t he leave too?
"Go ahead." It wasn't that Xu Ziyu didn't want to move, but his knees were finding it difficult to support his movements.
He was afraid she would notice something was amiss; she was recording now, not the time to talk about these things.
"Uh, what about you?" Luo Xikui wondered if he was going to stay in her room.
"I couldn't book a suite," Xu Ziyu lied through his teeth.
"Sister Xiaokui? The taxi downstairs has arrived. Are you ready yet?" The assistant's voice rang out from outside the door again.
Luo Xikui didn't have time to say much to him for the time being, so she went to the entrance hall to open the door.
"Mr. Ono is already waiting for you in the recording studio," the assistant said to Luo Xikui with a smile. "Sister Xiaokui, I feel like he might have a thing for you."
"What nonsense are you talking about?" Luo Xikui didn't know what was wrong with her, glanced at the door guiltily, and pulled her assistant away.
"I'm not making this up. The way he looked at you the day before yesterday, he was so appreciative." The assistant, with a bit of a gossip spirit, added, "We were invited here to record this time, weren't we? I heard that this sound engineer is booked up for three months straight."
"Alright, stop talking." Luo Xikui interrupted her as she got more and more convincing.
Unfortunately, Xu Ziyu had already heard everything inside, and his face was grim, as if a storm was brewing.
