"Xiao Kui, do you know when Sister Fei is coming back to China?" Yuan Cheng asked, sitting next to Xu Ziyu and looking at Luo Xi Kui across from him.
“She’s on tour in Europe, her schedule is packed, and they say it’ll be hard for her to come back for at least six months,” Luo Xikui chatted with Yuan Cheng, then added, “And you, are you settling in well as a lecturer at Yida University?”
"Well, I'm adapting fairly well. Uncle Luo has helped me a lot," Yuan Cheng said with a smile.
"My stepfather told me that you helped him a lot, and that you were more capable than the doctoral students he was supervising." After Luo Xikui recognized Luo Che as her godfather, she always called him "stepfather".
"Really? Uncle Luo never praises me to my face." Yuan Cheng shrugged and joked.
Xu Ziyu watched as the two of them chatted more and more enthusiastically, and they were talking about things that he couldn't get a word in edgewise. He did know Luo Xikui's godfather, but he hadn't seen him in a long time, so he couldn't say they were close.
And who exactly is this "Sister Fei" they're talking about?
Six years in a foreign country, four years without contact, and Yuan Cheng's intervention only highlighted the estrangement they had developed over the years.
Xu Ziyu slowly felt a pang of jealousy. He stingily tried to hide Luo Xikui away, only smiling at him.
“Vinegar.” Jing An’an, who had been quiet all along, suddenly spoke.
All three of them turned to look at her. It turned out she was eating braised pork, and there was no vinegar in her dish.
Luo Xikui and Yuan Cheng reached for the small vinegar bottle at the same time. Their fingertips touched the bottle together, and then they both pulled it back.
Luo Xikui smiled and said, "I'll do it."
She reached out again, took the vinegar bottle, and poured it into Jing An'an's small dish.
The smell of vinegar spread, and Xu Ziyu felt even more sour inside.
"Thank you," Jing An'an said politely to Luo Xikui.
Luo Xikui replied, "You're welcome," then glanced at Xu Ziyu's plate, which seemed to be almost empty of vinegar, and considerately asked, "Would you like some more?"
Xu Ziyu thought to himself, "Why does he need vinegar? I'm already full of sourness."
Seeing his expressionless face, Luo Xikui deliberately rubbed her foot against his calf on the table, as if she were being coquettish.
Xu Ziyu's expression softened, and he said, "I don't need it anymore. See if Mr. Yuan needs it."
Luo Xikui felt that there was a hidden meaning in those words.
"I don't need it anymore," Yuan Cheng said with a faint smile.
Luo Xikui put down the vinegar bottle, feeling the sourness spreading throughout the dining table.
"Oh, right, there's something I almost forgot to tell you. Cheng Fangyuan is getting married, and the wedding will be held after the New Year," Yuan Cheng said to Luo Xikui.
"Really? Congratulations to him! Is it with your class monitor Wang?" Luo Xikui knew some of the members of Yuancheng's basketball team; they were all in the same high school and saw each other often.
“Yes, it’s with Wang Yajing. That guy chased her all over half of China.” Yuan Cheng laughed.
Seeing them chatting so happily again, Xu Ziyu couldn't help but interject, "That's quite a coincidence."
Yuan Cheng looked at Xu Ziyu, wondering what was so strange about it.
Xu Ziyu smiled faintly: "Xiao Kui, do you have any more in your bag?"
Luo Xikui realized what he was talking about, nodded, and then went to rummage through her bag. She took out the wedding invitations, found a pen, and wrote two invitations, one for Yuan Cheng and one for Jing An'an.
"Welcome to our wedding," Luo Xikui said with a smile to Yuan Cheng and Jing An'an.
Yuan Cheng was taken aback, then took the wedding invitation. The two little figures on it looked like a perfect couple.
"Congratulations." Yuan Cheng took a light breath and smiled at Luo Xikui.
He was happy and offered his blessings when the girl he liked got what she wanted.
