"She has a fever?" Xiang Hengxi frowned; she hadn't mentioned this before.
This little guy, despite his small size, is incredibly stubborn. Even with a fever, he refused to give up and ran all ten laps.
"She won't wake up anytime soon." Doctor Wang helped Jing An'an breathe, and after the redness on her face faded, he took her temperature.
It's a bit higher than at noon, now it's 38.7 degrees Celsius.
"Xiaomei, prepare ice packs to cool An'an down physically," Dr. Wang instructed the nurse.
Xiang Hengxi watched the two of them busily taking care of Jing An'an's health, and they would occasionally look at him with reproachful eyes, as if he had done something terribly wrong.
Isn't it normal to get injured or hurt during training? Every soldier has countless injuries and illnesses.
Girls are so delicate, they should be cared for like his younger sister, not sent to this suffering army.
"Go on out. The soldiers are waiting for you to train them, and it's almost lunchtime." Doctor Wang urged Xiang Hengxi to leave so that An'an wouldn't be scared unconscious by his stern face when she woke up.
"I'll come over in a bit." Xiang Hengxi felt that she was partly responsible for her condition and that she had to make sure she got better.
Doctor Wang waved his hand, didn't even glance at him, and went straight to prepare an antipyretic injection for Jing An'an.
Xiang Hengxi left the medical room and returned to the training ground. The sun was setting, casting its last rays.
When the lunch bell rang, everyone, well-trained and in perfect unison, marched towards the canteen.
Xiang Hengxi ate a large white steamed bun, along with the simplest two vegetarian dishes and one meat dish, just like all the other soldiers.
He was halfway through his meal when he remembered the girl lying in the hospital bed, as thin as a kitten. By the time she got up to eat, the cafeteria had already closed.
He shoveled a few mouthfuls into his mouth, devoured the food in a whirlwind, and handed over the plate. Then he prepared to buy some for the girl.
But looking at the rather unappetizing food in the cafeteria, it didn't seem quite suitable for patients.
He thought for a moment, then left the canteen and rode his military motorcycle toward the rear compound.
After greeting the sentry at the gate, I entered the commander's residence.
"Oh my, what brings my little Hengheng here today?" Xiang Hengxi's grandmother, Bo Qingyun, saw her grandson and immediately got up to go over to him, affectionately pulling him along.
"Grandma, have you eaten?" Xiang Hengxi asked.
"No, I'm about to eat. Are you hungry, Ah Hong? Ah Hong, is the food ready yet?" Bo Qingyun called out to the cook in the kitchen.
"Grandma, do we have any insulated lunchboxes?" Xiang Hengxi went into the kitchen to look for them.
The cook gave him a lunchbox and looked at him with a puzzled expression.
Xiang Hengxi picked up the freshly cooked, exquisite dishes, put some into each lunchbox, and then filled a bowl with rice.
After screwing the lid on, he gave Bo Qingyun a light hug and said, "Grandma, I'll come again tomorrow."
Bo Qingyun watched Xiang Hengxi leave in a flurry, then looked at the half-eaten dishes, shook her head helplessly and chuckled.
Her grandson is becoming more and more like his father in his actions, but thankfully his personality isn't quite like his. This is all thanks to her daughter-in-law's good genes, which prevented her grandson from becoming a block of ice.
Xiang Hengxi drove his motorcycle, spewing exhaust fumes all the way to the military medical room.
He carried the boxed lunch inside. It was already dark, and only a small yellow light was on in the infirmary. Neither Dr. Wang nor the nurse were there; they had probably gone to eat.
Jing An'an lay alone in the hospital bed, looking extremely thin and pitiful.
