Xu Tingchuan ultimately didn't reveal it. The secret, buried for nearly ten years, would remain hidden in his heart.
He knew very well what Su Yan meant to Shen Muzhi, but he originally thought that as time went by, some of the pain would gradually lessen.
But judging from Shen Mu's tone today, Su Yan hasn't become a thing of the past in his heart.
"You just take care of your own little wife and don't interfere in my affairs," Shen Muzhi said to Xu Tingchuan with unusual coldness.
Xu Tingchuan frowned. He hadn't expected Shen Muzhi to be so determined to get close to Zhi Lan.
However, he had already promised Ni Sitian that he wouldn't let Shen Muzhi make things difficult for Xiang Zhilan, and he didn't want to see Ni Sitian sad.
“Fine, I can ignore it, but can you do something different with Xiang Zhilan?” Xu Tingchuan tried to compromise, then added, “If you have her fired, make her unable to find a job, and force her to come back to you with nowhere else to go, you’ll only make things worse.”
Shen Muzhi narrowed his eyes slightly, turned around and walked back to the sofa, poured a glass of wine, and gently swirled it. "When did you become so skilled at dealing with women? Did you learn it from Ni Sitian?"
Xu Tingchuan ignored his sarcasm and continued, "Xiang Zhilan seems to respond better to gentleness than force. You might as well try to be nicer to her."
Shen Muzhi took a small sip of wine and said calmly, "Are you finished?"
"If you want her, wouldn't it be better to win her over wholeheartedly?"
"I will consider your suggestion appropriately." Shen Muzhi looked at the wine in his glass, swirled it gently, and prepared to hang up the phone.
Xu Tingchuan was still not entirely at ease, and said to him again, "Even if you want to use her as a substitute for Su Yan, please don't hurt her. She is innocent."
"It seems love is truly great; you've become so long-winded." Shen Muzhi didn't give Xu Tingchuan a direct answer before hanging up the phone.
Xu Tingchuan frowned as he looked at the darkened screen. In the end, he could only sigh helplessly, put his phone away, look up at the half-moon in the starry sky, and let out a long sigh.
After hanging up the phone, Shen Muzhi casually tossed his phone onto the table, picked up his wine glass, and downed the wine in one gulp.
Jinji jumped onto his lap, grabbed his bathrobe sleeve and tugged at it, looking at him with her round eyes as if trying to persuade him to stop drinking.
After finishing his glass of wine, he put it down, hugged Jinji, gently stroked its beautiful golden fur, and said softly, "You like her very much, don't you?"
Jinji seemed to know what he was talking about, and burrowed her head into his chest, as if to answer that he was right.
Shen Mu chuckled softly, looking down at it, and said, "You like the smell of the darkroom on her, don't you? It smells like photo developing chemicals, doesn't it?"
"Woo..." Jinji let out a long whimper from its throat and wagged its tail frantically.
"It seems you really like her." Shen Muzhi patted its head and said with a double meaning, "But she seems to be afraid of you, what should we do?"
Jinji's tail drooped down, and it nestled sadly in Shen Muzhi's arms.
"Don't worry, I'll make sure she'll willingly come and take care of you." Shen Muzhi stroked Jinji's fur, comforting it.
Jinji wagged its tail again, its joy evident.
Shen Muzhi twitched the corner of his mouth, put it on the ground, and got up to walk towards the big bed.
Jinji followed behind him, and after he lay down on the bed, it curled up on the round blanket next to the bed and fell asleep.
