Chapter 216 Does Your Hand Hurt?

When Ni Sitian heard Xu Tingchuan's voice, a bittersweet feeling welled up in her heart. She hadn't even thought of crying when she was wronged and aggrieved, but tears streamed down her face after hearing his voice.

But she didn't want him to worry about her even though he was thousands of miles away, so she desperately held back her tears and wiped them haphazardly on her face.

"It's four in the morning here. I'm heading to a hotel near the airport to rest. I'll be transferring to a flight to Los Angeles early tomorrow morning," Xu Tingchuan said as he walked, still unaware of Ni Sitian's strange behavior. He then asked, "What about you? What are you doing now?"

Ni Sitian sniffed lightly, trying to compose herself, and replied in a relaxed voice, "I'm on the phone with you."

Xu Tingchuan then realized something was wrong. Although she tried to sound relaxed, her voice trailed off with a nasal tone and a slight sob, as if she were crying.

"What's wrong? What happened?" He stopped and asked anxiously.

Ni Sitian shook her head, holding back her tears: "It's nothing."

"What happened? Why are you crying?" Xu Tingchuan asked anxiously.

He can't see her now, but he can hear the sobbing in her voice, which is even more heartbreaking than when she was by his side.

Ni Sitian knew her voice had betrayed her, so she stopped hiding it and sobbed, "I... I hit someone."

"Are you hurt?" Xu Tingchuan asked anxiously and worriedly. He thought that she was so soft and delicate, she would definitely suffer if she got into a fight.

Ni Sitian felt a warm glow in her heart because of his concern.

She clearly told him that she was the one who hit someone, but instead of questioning her why she hit someone, he first asked her if she was hurt.

“I’m not injured. I slapped her, and she passed out. She was just taken to the hospital,” Ni Sitian said, sniffing again.

Upon hearing this, Xu Tingchuan breathed a sigh of relief and said with a hint of reproach, "Why did you start hitting me?"

Ni Sitian thought he was going to scold her, and felt extremely wronged. She wanted to explain, but unexpectedly, he immediately asked, "Did your hand hurt from hitting me?"

She was stunned, and answered honestly in a daze, "It's numb."

"Don't do it yourself next time, find someone to hit you." Xu Tingchuan felt sorry for her, thinking that her palms might be red from being hit.

Ni Sitian burst into laughter through her tears at his indulgent words, "Why don't you ask me why I hit someone?"

Hearing her laugh, Xu Tingchuan's brow relaxed slightly, and he said with a faint smile, "What's there to ask? That person definitely deserved to be beaten."

In his eyes, she was so gentle and weak, with a soft personality. She would never have acted unless she was pushed to the limit. So he didn't need to ask to know that she must have been wronged.

Ni Sitian burst out laughing. All her previous grievances vanished. With someone who unconditionally trusts and indulges her, what else could she possibly feel wronged about?

"Did your colleagues at the magazine cause you trouble?" Xu Tingchuan asked, getting back to the point after hearing her laugh.

"Hmm." Ni Sitian walked to the stairs in the hallway and sat down. She told Xu Tingchuan about what she had witnessed that morning—accidentally seeing Editor-in-Chief Ma and Ji Xiaoyun having an affair. Then she talked about how Ji Xiaoyun had deliberately framed her, and how Editor-in-Chief Ma had sided with Ji Xiaoyun. Finally, she said somewhat dejectedly, "Xu Tingchuan, am I just unlikable? I clearly didn't do anything to her, so why is she targeting me at every turn..."

"Who said that!" Xu Tingchuan said in a deep voice, very seriously, "She is clearly very likable."
