Ni Sitian yawned delicately, but before she could open her eyes, her phone rang.
She reached out and took it, giving a lazy, sleepy "hello."
"Aren't you awake yet?" Hearing her soft, nasal voice, Xu Tingchuan could already imagine her adorable appearance after just waking up, and his voice couldn't help but carry a hint of pleasant laughter.
When Ni Sitian heard that it was Xu Tingchuan calling, she immediately opened her eyes, glanced at the alarm clock, and saw that it was already past nine in the morning.
"Oh no, I'm late for work." She instinctively tried to get up, but her body went limp and she fell back onto the bed, hitting the headboard on her head.
"What's wrong?" Xu Tingchuan asked worriedly after hearing a muffled thud.
Ni Sitian rubbed the back of her head and got up, feeling dizzy. Her voice unconsciously carried a hint of coquettishness: "I bumped my head, it hurts so much."
"How could you be so careless?" Xu Tingchuan frowned slightly, gently scolding him, then couldn't help but ask anxiously, "Is it swollen?"
"No." Ni Sitian rubbed her hand, and hearing his concern made her feel better. She smiled and said, "I have to go to work now."
"No need to rush, I've already asked for leave for you." Xu Tingchuan remembered that she wasn't feeling well last night, so he asked for leave for her this morning.
Upon hearing this, Ni Sitian breathed a sigh of relief, lay back on the bed, continued rubbing the back of her head, and smiled, saying, "Thank you."
This "thank you" sounded a bit more intimate than the "thank you" I said last night, and the relationship seemed to be slowly easing up.
Xu Tingchuan's gaze softened as he looked out the window at the night view; it was just past 7 p.m. in Los Angeles.
"Is your stomach still upset?" This was the main purpose of his call. He was worried about her health and had been distracted during the meeting, so he called to ask when she was supposed to get up.
"It should be better now." Ni Sitian no longer felt any discomfort in her stomach, stretched her arms, and couldn't help but yawn.
"Are you still sleepy?" Xu Tingchuan chuckled, imagining her as lazy and drowsy as a kitten.
"Yeah, I didn't sleep well last night," Ni Sitian mumbled as she lay back down on the bed.
"Then you should sleep a little longer."
"Hmm." Ni Sitian closed her eyes and yawned again, but she was reluctant to hang up and wanted to continue listening to Xu Tingchuan's voice, so she forced herself to stay awake and asked, "Have you eaten properly?"
"Okay, go to sleep if you're sleepy." He could tell she was tired.
"But I still want to hear your voice." Ni Sitian was very sleepy, and her brain couldn't control her mouth. She frankly said what she was thinking. It took her two seconds to realize what she had said. She explained a little embarrassedly, "Actually, I'm not that sleepy."
Xu Tingchuan only heard her first sentence, and a warm feeling welled up in his heart. He said softly, "Turn on speakerphone, you go to sleep, I'll continue talking to you."
Ni Sitian rested her head on the pillow, a slight smile playing on her lips, as she listened to Xu Tingchuan's deep, resonant voice gently ringing in her ears.
He told her about his upcoming itinerary: after spending a week in Los Angeles, he would go to New York, where he would be working for a longer period, probably not returning until early January. His work would mainly involve collaborating with telecommunications companies there on several projects.
Ni Sitian listened attentively to these things she didn't understand at all, calculating in her mind that when she got her passport, he would be working in New York, and she would simply go and surprise him then.
As she pondered this, she was gradually lulled to sleep by Xu Tingchuan's pleasant voice.
