Ni Sitian desperately wanted to know who was by her side at that moment. She struggled to lift her eyelids, managing only to open them a tiny bit.
Xu Tingchuan's face came into her view in a blurry blur. She felt as if she were dreaming, and her mind was a little dazed. He should be in America, how could he be by her side?
"It hurts..." Ni Sitian groaned weakly in pain.
Xu Tingchuan looked up and saw that she was awake. He reached out and stroked her cheek, asking anxiously and softly, "Does your wound hurt? Does it hurt a lot?"
Upon hearing Xu Tingchuan's voice, Ni Sitian gradually regained consciousness and slowly opened her eyes.
The moment she saw Xu Tingchuan clearly, tears welled up in her eyes: "It hurts..."
Seeing her tears, Xu Tingchuan felt a pang of pain in his heart. He gently wiped away her tears with his thumb and softly comforted her, "If you feel uncomfortable, pinch me or squeeze me to distract yourself."
Ni Sitian gave a pale, forced smile. She had no strength left to pinch anyone, and even speaking was a struggle.
"Why does it hurt so much? Am I dreaming?" She still felt that she was in a dream, which was why she saw Xu Tingchuan.
Hearing her voice so weak, Xu Tingchuan gently stroked her cheek and said softly, "It's not a dream. You had surgery last night, and now that the anesthesia has worn off, the incision will hurt."
Ni Sitian lowered her eyelids. After his reminder, she slowly remembered that she had fainted from pain on the street and was then sent to the hospital, where she lay on a cold operating table.
But why did she see Xu Tingchuan the moment she opened her eyes?
Ni Sitian frowned, opened her eyes again, and, confirming that Xu Tingchuan was still in front of her, her lips trembled slightly: "Weren't you in America?"
"I just got back by plane," Xu Tingchuan said gently, taking her hand and lifting her cheek.
Ni Sitian blinked, still a little incredulous, and stammered, "Isn't work supposed to continue until the beginning of January?"
"Silly girl, those things aren't important." Xu Tingchuan gently rubbed his cheek against her palm, wanting to give her warmth, and asked with concern, "Does the incision hurt a lot?"
Ni Sitian has always had a low pain tolerance. The pain from the incision was so intense that she didn't even have the strength to speak. She nodded slightly.
Seeing that her lips were dry and chapped, Xu Tingchuan got up to pour a glass of warm water, dipped a cotton swab in the water, and dabbed it on her lips.
She shouldn't get out of bed right now, and it's best for her to drink less water, so he adopted this compromise.
"You can't drink too much water right now, just bear with it." Xu Tingchuan patted her head when he saw her licking the moisture off her lips as if they were dry.
Ni Sitian nodded obediently, her eyes still looking longingly at the glass of water.
Xu Tingchuan then dipped a little more in the lipstick and moistened her lips.
Ni Sitian felt her mouth was more comfortable and she regained some strength, but the pain from the surgical incision became more pronounced.
She frowned deeply, gripped the blanket tightly, and endured the pain.
Seeing this, Xu Tingchuan took her hand and made her pinch him, saying softly, "Pinch me as hard as it hurts, don't hold back."
Ni Sitian shook her head. She couldn't bear to see him in so much pain. He looked so exhausted.
She had never seen Xu Tingchuan so unkempt before. She figured he must have rushed back by plane and hadn't eaten or slept all night.
“I’m sorry,” Ni Sitian said apologetically, raising her hand to touch his cheek. “I made you worry.”
Xu Tingchuan gave a silent, bitter smile. This fool! He was the one who hadn't taken good care of her, yet she was apologizing instead.
