Ni Sitian kept a straight face. If she forgave him so easily, wouldn't he be able to hide anything from her in the future?
Xu Tingchuan looked at her slightly chubby oval face, which looked like a child pretending to be an adult, and he really wanted to laugh.
But he knew he couldn't laugh now; he had to coax her.
She's the kind of person who's easily coaxed; she'll listen to either gentle persuasion or force.
Xu Tingchuan held her soft hand and looked at her sincerely admitting her mistake: "I really didn't give you enough trust in the matter of Mu Zhi. It was my fault. I know Xiang Zhilan is your best friend. I shouldn't have kept it from you. Even though Mu Zhi had promised me that I wouldn't touch her, I should still have made this clear to you. I was wrong. Please forgive me."
As Ni Sitian listened to him speak such a series of sweet words in his deep, magnetic voice, her heart softened, and her stern face began to crumble. She looked down at his well-defined hands.
Both of them wore platinum rings on their clasped hands, and she couldn't help but stroke the ring on his hand.
“Xu Tingchuan, we are husband and wife. You said before that we would walk hand in hand for a lifetime.” Ni Sitian pursed her lips, her eyes fixed on the wedding ring, and said softly, “A lifetime is a long time. I can’t guarantee that there won’t be things I want to hide from you in the future, but I am willing to try my best to be honest. What about you?”
She raised her eyes, her dark eyes shining brighter than the stars.
Looking into her eyes, Xu Tingchuan saw a tiny reflection of himself, as if he were immersed in a sea of stars.
He squeezed Ni Sitian's hand and answered earnestly, "Me too."
Ni Sitian smiled faintly, then tightened her face again, her voice slightly annoyed: "Then confess now, why did you lie to me that you had nothing for Su Yan? Don't tell me it was because you were afraid I would be jealous, I'm not jealous at all."
Why would she be jealous of someone who is no longer alive? At most, she would just feel uncomfortable.
Seeing her like this, Xu Tingchuan couldn't help but smile. "You just said you were being honest, but now you're clearly jealous, and you're lying to me that you're not."
"Don't try to change the subject." Ni Sitian frowned slightly.
"How come my wife's little brain suddenly became so clever?" Xu Tingchuan rubbed the back of her head and couldn't help but praise her.
"You're the one who's been blessed! I've always been smart!" Ni Sitian slapped away his hand that was touching her head and said angrily.
Xu Tingchuan suppressed a laugh, and after praising her a few times, she was led astray again.
Ni Sitian realized that she couldn't help but follow his lead, and angrily clenched her fist and punched his chest.
"Okay, okay." Xu Tingchuan grasped her small fist, put his arm around her shoulder, and pulled her into his arms.
Ni Sitian leaned against his chest, biting her lower lip, and said in a muffled voice, "You really can't forget her even after ten years?"
"Mm," Xu Tingchuan replied calmly.
Ni Sitian felt a surge of bitterness in her heart and couldn't speak. She knew it was foolish to argue with someone who was no longer alive, but the thought that such a woman held such an important place in Xu Tingchuan's heart made her feel extremely uncomfortable.
"Sigh," Xu Tingchuan sighed softly, lifting her small face from his arms. Seeing her suppressing her sadness, he couldn't bear to probe her true feelings any further. He said gently, "Even an ordinary friend would remember you after they pass away, right? Just think about what would happen if something happened to Xiang Zhilan one day..."
Ni Sitian covered his mouth, forbidding him from using Zhi Lan as a metaphor.
