Upon hearing this, Xiang Zhilan lowered her gaze and saw that Shen Muzhi's black clothes were damp with dark stains, and bright red blood was visible on the knees of her white pants.
She quickly looked up at Shen Muzhi. She had just kicked him, so how could he not change his expression and bandage her small wound first?
Butler Chen came over and helped Shen Muzhi up, muttering as he helped him to the bed, "Didn't you hear what the doctor said? Your wound can't open up again, what if it gets infected? It's raining so hard outside, we can't go out. If your internal organs rupture, even Dr. Wang can't save you. Why don't you cherish your body a little more..."
Shen Muzhi remained silent and lay down to let Dr. Wang treat her again.
Butler Chen felt sorry for her and turned his head away.
When he saw Xiang Zhilan still sitting on the sofa, he couldn't help but feel a little resentful. He had served the Shen family for over thirty years. He had watched Shen Muzhi being born and growing up. Later, when Shen Muzhi moved out to live alone, he followed him to continue serving and managing the household.
To be frank, he considered Shen Muzhi as his son-in-law. Over the years, Shen Muzhi's temper had become increasingly eccentric and difficult to please, but in his heart, he was still his young master. Although he was usually intimidated by him, seeing him like this, that elder's mentality couldn't help but resurface.
"Sir, you must not move your wound any further. You must rest in bed, otherwise you will have to be sent to the hospital again," Dr. Wang said seriously to Shen Muzhi.
"Sir, please listen to what Dr. Wang has to say," Butler Chen said earnestly.
Shen Muzhi glanced at Xiang Zhilan sitting on the sofa. Butler Chen understood his meaning and, as he bent down to tuck him in, whispered, "Sir, don't worry, I will definitely let Miss Xiang stay at home for now."
Shen Muzhi withdrew his gaze, remaining silent and still.
Butler Chen knew that he had taken his words to heart and secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Dr. Wang got up and saw Zhi Lan throw the cotton swabs with a lot of blood on his hands into the trash can. The sight of so much blood was shocking.
She didn't hear Shen Muzhi utter a sound of pain; he remained silent as if the blood wasn't on his body.
Dr. Wang gave a few more instructions and then left the room.
Xiang Zhilan snapped out of her daze and stood up. Butler Chen followed Xiang Zhilan out of the room.
“Miss Xiang, it’s really pouring rain outside right now. You don’t want anything to happen to you, do you? No matter what happened between you and your husband, you should think about your parents. What if something happens to you if you go out now?” Butler Chen advised.
Xiang Zhilan heard a thunderous roar outside, as if it were about to split the sky open, which sounded terrifying.
After calming down, she realized that Butler Chen was right, so she nodded and decided to stay for the time being.
Seeing that Xiang Zhilan had been persuaded, Butler Chen was relieved. "Then I'll arrange a guest room for you and have someone bring dinner up in a bit."
Xiang Zhilan nodded and followed Butler Chen to the guest room, which was actually a room diagonally opposite Shen Muzhi's, the one she had stayed in before.
She had a high fever after being caught in the rain, and Shen Muzhi took care of her all night.
If only their relationship had ended the moment she stepped out of that house, at least they wouldn't be enemies.
Xiang Zhilan stood by the window for a moment, then regained her composure, picked up the phone from the bedside table, and dialed her mother's number.
