The maid was taken aback. Although it was pouring rain today, the house was heated and not cold.
Shen Muzhi was about to hang up when he remembered what Butler Chen had said, so he added, "Remember to tell her it was my order."
Shouldn't that be clear enough?
Shen Muzhi hung up the phone after he finished speaking.
The maid, completely bewildered, went to get the blanket and carried it to Xiang Zhilan's room.
Xiang Zhilan had just finished eating and was standing by the window, looking at the torrential rain outside, when she heard a knock on the door. She turned around and saw the maid carrying a thick silk quilt over.
She looked at him questioningly, "Afang, what's this?"
After putting down the quilt, Afang looked up at Zhilan and said, "It was the master who instructed me to bring you an extra quilt."
Upon hearing this, Xiang Zhilan frowned slightly. What did Shen Muzhi mean by this? Was he trying to suffocate her or make her die from the heat?
Seeing that Xiang Zhilan's expression was off, Afang also felt that the master's concern was a bit superfluous, so she added, "The dishes for tonight's meal were also specially ordered by the master. Miss Xiang, the master cares about you very much."
Xiang Zhilan withdrew her gaze, thinking to herself that he would never do such a thing; it was probably Butler Chen who had thought of things for him.
"Go down," Xiang Zhilan said calmly.
Afang wanted to say a few more good words for Shen Muzhi, but Xiang Zhilan didn't want to listen. So before leaving the room, she said one more thing: "The master also said that you should rest early."
Xiang Zhilan looked out at the torrential rain without responding.
Afang had no choice but to leave first. Unexpectedly, she bumped into Shen Muzhi in the corridor, who was being repeatedly told by the doctor to rest in bed.
“Sir.” Afang walked over and bowed respectfully.
"How is she? Is she resting?" Shen Muzhi asked indifferently, showing no concern whatsoever, as if he were just asking casually.
But Ah Fang has been working as a maid here for five or six years, and she knows her husband's personality somewhat, so it's already quite remarkable that she would ask such a question.
It seems that Mr. and Ms. Xiang are having a disagreement right now. If you want to thaw things out between them, it's not enough to convey your concern through a third party.
A thought struck her, and she said carefully, "Miss Xiang doesn't seem to be feeling well. She only ate a few bites of food and has been staring blankly out the window ever since. Why don't you go and check on her yourself, sir?"
Upon hearing this, Shen Muzhi frowned slightly and waved his hand at Afang.
Afang stepped back and walked downstairs.
Shen Muzhi walked to Xiang Zhilan's door, stared at it for a while, raised his hand to knock, but then lowered it again.
The last person she wants to see right now is probably him; seeing him would likely make her feel even worse.
Shen Muzhi pursed his lips, turned around to leave, and the door suddenly opened.
He looked up and his eyes met Xiang Zhilan's.
When Xiang Zhilan saw him, her expression changed, and she was about to slam the door shut when Shen Muzhi unexpectedly used it to block the way.
The door slammed hard against Shen Muzhi's hand. Xiang Zhilan was also stunned. Looking at the hands on the door, the backs of her hands instantly turned red and swollen.
"What are you doing!" Xiang Zhilan looked at Shen Muzhi, her eyes red, and said coldly, "Is this how you atone for your sins? Do you think you can make me pretend nothing happened by using some self-inflicted suffering?"
"I didn't think that way." Shen Muzhi withdrew his hand, hiding his injured hand behind his back so that Xiang Zhilan wouldn't see it.
Xiang Zhilan tried to close the door again, but Shen Muzhi braced his other hand against the door and looked at her, saying, "I want to talk to you."
"I have nothing to talk to you about." Xiang Zhilan pushed the door open forcefully, slammed it shut, and locked it from the inside.
Shen Muzhi stared at the tightly closed door, his eyes darkening.
His hand, which was behind his back, trembled uncontrollably from the pain.
