"How can this be!" Ni Sitian stood up excitedly. "Aren't you a photographer? What does war reporting have to do with you? Isn't this a reporter's job!"
She didn't like watching current affairs news, but when Xu Tingchuan watched it, she still glanced at it a few times. There was war going on there, and life was in danger at any time, which was completely different from the peaceful and prosperous world in China.
Going there now is practically playing with your life!
"You can't go!" Ni Sitian panicked when she saw Zhi Lan's calm demeanor. Her biggest fear was that Zhi Lan had made up her mind. She frantically searched her memory for reasons to persuade her: "What will happen to Xiang Dad and Xiang Mom if you go! And what about Feng Jingxian..."
"I broke up with him," Xiang Zhilan interrupted Ni Sitian.
Ni Sitian was stunned. She had indeed thought that Feng Jingxian might not be sincere enough in his treatment of Xiang Zhilan, and she was wondering what Zhilan would decide. She didn't expect them to break up so quickly.
"You only want to go there because you broke up with him? What is it about him that makes you want to do this?"
“No.” Xiang Zhilan shook her head and said calmly, “It has nothing to do with him. I wanted to go myself and applied to the newspaper. All the checks and preliminary work have been completed.”
“Zhi Lan…” Ni Sitian didn’t understand why this would happen suddenly.
Xiang Zhilan smiled and shrugged slightly. "You know I've always loved challenges and adventures. The more difficult the place, the more I want to film there. I've been to so many places in the past few years, including battlefields. I want to take some more precious photos to record this history."
“What does that history have to do with you!” Ni Sitian looked at Xiang Zhilan with reddened eyes.
"Silly girl, it's not as scary as you think. War correspondents are protected by the military." Xiang Zhilan took out a tissue and reached out to wipe her face.
Ni Sitian waved her hand away and looked at her pleadingly, "Can't I not go?"
Xiang Zhilan lowered her eyes, shook her head, and said, "The application over there has been approved, and I will be leaving in two or three days at most."
Upon hearing this, Ni Sitian turned pale. Xiang Zhilan was already determined to leave, and she couldn't persuade her otherwise.
"When will you be back?" she asked, taking a deep breath to calm herself down.
"It could take as little as six months, or as long as two or three years."
"So long? What about Xiang's parents? Have you talked to them? Did they agree?"
"More or less," Xiang Zhilan replied vaguely.
"Zhi Lan, did something happen to you?" Ni Sitian felt something was off. It was true that Xiang Zhi Lan loved adventure, but the battlefield was no joke. Why would she suddenly want to go?
"It's nothing," Xiang Zhilan smiled, then changed the subject, afraid that she wouldn't believe him: "After this trip, I've finally paid off the remaining balance on my house. Isn't that great?"
Ni Sitian didn't believe she was after money, but no matter how she asked, she got the real answer.
"Alright, it's already five o'clock. I'll take you home to be a good wife." After paying the bill, Xiang Zhilan took Ni Sitian's arm and drove her home.
Ni Sitian tried her best to persuade Xiang Zhilan all the way, but to no avail.
Back home, she felt uneasy. While peeling potatoes, she accidentally cut her finger, and blood immediately gushed out.
She snapped out of her pain, rinsed it under the water, and then came out to find a band-aid.
Xu Tingchuan opened the door and came in. He saw Ni Sitian clumsily tearing off a band-aid, not even having time to change her shoes. He immediately went over, frowned, and gently scolded, "How did you hurt your hand?"
