Chapter 553 Deciding to Take Medicine

Xiang Zhilan slowly raised her head from her knees, gazing absently at the clouds on the horizon, dyed red by the afterglow of the setting sun, as red as blood.

She lowered her numb legs, stood up while holding onto the sides of the hanging chair, walked back into the house, sat on the sofa, and stared blankly at the medicine bottle on the coffee table.

My phone suddenly rang; it was that same song, "Because of Love," which now sounded rather ironic.

She took her phone out of her bag to hang up, but when she saw that the caller ID showed it was Sitian, she hesitated for a moment before answering.

“Zhi Lan, can we meet?” Ni Sitian had been thinking about it all night and felt that she still couldn’t let her go to Syria, so she wanted to meet again to persuade her.

"Today? I'm not available right now." Xiang Zhilan lowered her eyes, her gaze fixed on the medicine bottle, and said softly.

Ni Sitian noticed that Xiang Zhilan's voice sounded off and asked worriedly, "Do you have a cold? Why does your voice sound so hoarse?"

"Hmm, I'm not feeling well." Xiang Zhilan coughed lightly twice, pretending not to notice.

"Have you gone to the hospital?" Ni Sitian asked with concern.

"Yes, I was just about to take my medicine." Xiang Zhilan reached out and picked up the medicine, holding it tightly in her hand.

Upon hearing this, Ni Sitian could only say, "Then you should rest well after taking your medicine, and remember to drink plenty of hot water."

Xiang Zhilan agreed, and Ni Sitian, not wanting to disturb her from taking her medicine and resting, gave her a few more instructions and then hung up the phone.

Xiang Zhilan lowered her hand and put down her phone.

After sitting silently for a long time, I unscrewed the cap of the medicine bottle in my hand and poured out one pill.

After the pill was placed in her palm, her hand began to tremble uncontrollably.

This tiny pill, if swallowed, is tantamount to murdering the child.

She knew it was cruel to do this, but reason told her that the child could not be kept.

He exists because of his mistakes, and keeping him is not only bad for her, but also unfair to the child.

If Shen Muzhi knew, he might really marry her, but she couldn't imagine being tied to him for life because of a child.

Besides, Shen Muzhi might not even like her. After living with him for three months, how could she, with her keen perception, not have noticed that Shen Muzhi had a woman in his heart, and that he loved that woman very much?

She didn't know why he couldn't be with that woman, but she had no interest in getting into the heart of someone who had another woman.

What's more, and most importantly, she didn't love Shen Muzhi at all, and had no desire to be with him whatsoever.

Moreover, she doesn't have the courage to be a single mother, so this child absolutely cannot be kept.

It's only two weeks old, still just a fertilized egg implanted, not even a embryo yet. It's probably not even as big as the pill in her hand. Even if she gets rid of it, it won't feel anything.

Xiang Zhilan closed her eyes, repeatedly trying to convince herself with these words, desperately suppressing her trembling hands.

The few minutes felt like an eternity. Finally, she opened her eyes, her dark pupils as still as an ancient well, devoid of life or emotion.

She pursed her lips, trembling slightly, raised her palm to her mouth, then gently bit the pill, rolled it in with her tongue, and swallowed it slowly...

With a bang, Ni Sitian's easel suddenly collapsed, and the tip of the paintbrush she was holding broke off.

She was stunned into thought, her heart pounding inexplicably. She clutched her chest, feeling as if her heart was about to leap out of her chest.

What exactly is causing this intense sense of unease?
