Chapter 618 Zhi Lan Faints

The room fell silent, with only the ticking of the clock hands.

Shen Guoliang looked down at Shen Muzhi, his thick eyebrows furrowed. Shen Muzhi had always been a quiet child, unlike other children who would beg their parents for things. He always tried to get things in his own way. This was the first time he had begged him like this.

But should he just watch a girl be trapped in this unwilling marriage for the sake of his son?

Shen Guoliang looked up at Xiang Zhilan. He felt that they should respect her wishes; how could something forced last?

Xiang Zhilan was still in shock. She stared at the top of Shen Muzhi's head, speechless for a long time.

Shen Muzhi's knees were already injured, and he had just been hit on the back. Now, kneeling, his face was even paler, and despite it being April or May, large beads of sweat were pouring down his forehead.

Xiang Zhilan felt a little reluctant to watch, but did she really have to give up such a good opportunity because of this reluctance?

Time passed by, and Xiang Zhilan suddenly felt a sharp pain in her stomach. She lowered her head and touched her stomach. Was this child reminding her of his existence? Did he not want to be without a father?

"I..." Xiang Zhilan spoke again, feeling dizzy, and suddenly her legs went weak, and she collapsed softly.

Shen Muzhi caught her in time. Shen Guoliang turned around, startled, and shouted, "Dr. Wang!"

"Dr. Wang!" Shen Muzhi carried her and hurried out. When they returned to the bedroom, Butler Chen, the maid, and Dr. Wang all rushed over.

Dr. Wang examined Xiang Zhilan with a stethoscope and blood pressure monitor. "The young mistress is probably fainting due to anemia. She will wake up in a little while."

As they were talking, Xiang Zhilan opened her eyes. She had only been unconscious for a moment. When she woke up, she found herself in bed. Shen Muzhi stared at her anxiously, "What happened to me?"

Thinking back to what had just happened, Shen Muzhi realized that she had fainted because of his pressure. Did she really not want to stay by his side that much that even the child couldn't keep her?

"You..." He kept a straight face, lowered his eyes, pursed his lips, and said softly, "Do you really want to leave here?"

Xiang Zhilan remembered that she was making a choice before she fainted.

Shen Muzhi seemed genuinely reluctant to let her leave. Was it for the sake of the child?

"Sir, Madam needs to rest now," Dr. Wang said to Shen Muzhi.

"You may all leave," Shen Muzhi instructed the people inside the room.

Soon only Shen Muzhi and Xiang Zhilan remained in the room.

Shen Muzhi didn't ask her any more questions. He tucked the blanket around her and stood up to walk towards the bathroom.

Xiang Zhilan saw that the purplish-red marks on his back were already visible, and among those scattered marks, there was also a bluish-purple fist mark.

This must be the punch he received from Shen Guoliang when he was protecting her in the courtyard.

Xiang Zhilan lowered her eyes, her fingers gripping the bed sheet, and pursed her lips.

Shen Muzhi wrung out a towel and came back, then sat down by the bed to wipe Xiang Zhilan's face.

Xiang Zhilan looked directly at him and asked in a slightly hoarse voice, "Is it worth it for the child?"

"It's not just because of the child." After carefully wiping her clean, Shen Muzhi looked at her with deep, dark eyes.

Xiang Zhilan's heart skipped a beat. Did he mean that he not only wanted to keep the child, but also wanted to keep her?

Shen Muzhi stood up, went back to the bathroom, wrung out the towel again, and wiped the sweat off his body.
