The room fell silent, with only the ticking of the clock hands.
Shen Guoliang looked down at Shen Muzhi, his thick eyebrows furrowed. Shen Muzhi had always been a quiet child, unlike other children who would beg their parents for things. He always tried to get things in his own way. This was the first time he had begged him like this.
But should he just watch a girl be trapped in this unwilling marriage for the sake of his son?
Shen Guoliang looked up at Xiang Zhilan. He felt that they should respect her wishes; how could something forced last?

"You may all leave," Shen Muzhi instructed the people inside the room.
Soon only Shen Muzhi and Xiang Zhilan remained in the room.
Shen Muzhi didn't ask her any more questions. He tucked the blanket around her and stood up to walk towards the bathroom.
Xiang Zhilan saw that the purplish-red marks on his back were already visible, and among those scattered marks, there was also a bluish-purple fist mark.
This must be the punch he received from Shen Guoliang when he was protecting her in the courtyard.
Xiang Zhilan lowered her eyes, her fingers gripping the bed sheet, and pursed her lips.
