"Jiayue, it's me." Ni Sitian smiled faintly and asked, "Is tomorrow Grandma's birthday?"
"Oh, it's my sister-in-law. Yes, tomorrow is Mom's fifty-fifth birthday. Although it's not a very big birthday, it's still very important." Xu Jiayue came back to her senses and said, "Hasn't my brother mentioned it?"
"Uh..." Ni Sitian tried to smooth things over for Xu Tingchuan but couldn't, so she said, "We'll be going back tomorrow. What kind of gift does Mom like?"
“She likes the petri dishes in the lab,” Xu Jiayue joked, which also fully demonstrated Jin Rulan’s personality.
Ni Sitian smiled; she could easily imagine the meticulous way her mother-in-law conducted academic research.
"Okay, okay, enough joking around. The gift doesn't matter, as long as it's the thought that counts, Mom will like it." Xu Jiayue paused for a moment and then said, "If possible, keep an eye on my brother tomorrow and make sure he doesn't say anything that will upset Mom."
"Mmm." Ni Sitian was just responding when she heard the door open, so she said, "Your brother is back, I'll hang up now."
She hung up, got out of bed, and saw Xu Tingchuan in sportswear, carrying breakfast.
"Call me next time you go for your morning exercise," Ni Sitian said with a smile.
"I remember the last time I called you, you kicked me away." Xu Tingchuan raised an eyebrow.
"That's because they weren't fully awake yet," Ni Sitian explained, justifying her slight morning grumpiness.
"Go wash up quickly, today you like to have some steamed buns and hot and sour noodles," Xu Tingchuan said with a smile.
Upon hearing this, Ni Sitian immediately went into the bathroom to quickly wash up, then happily ran to the dining table, picked up a small steamed bun, and stuffed it into her mouth, looking very satisfied and happy.
Lately, in order to lose weight, she can only eat breakfast so heartily. The wedding is in two weeks, and they will be taking wedding photos in a few days. Her face needs to be a little thinner to look better in photos.
While eating breakfast, Ni Sitian mentioned to Xu Tingchuan that they would be going back to the mansion tomorrow to celebrate Jin Rulan's birthday.
“What time do you get off work this afternoon? Let’s go shopping and buy Mom a gift,” Ni Sitian suggested.
Xu Tingchuan remained calm as he continued eating his breakfast. "I have a business dinner tonight."
Ni Sitian was a little dissatisfied, but remembering their past disagreements and conflicts over how they treated Jin Rulan, she only muttered, "What social engagement is more important than picking out a gift for Mom?"
"Go ahead and choose," Xu Tingchuan said, his eyes lowered, unwilling to say anything more.
It was the same thing again. Ni Sitian was a little angry, but helpless, so she could only nod.
Next, she sulked and refused to talk to him, lowering her head to eat her steamed bun.
When he left, she deliberately didn't look up at him. Only after he closed the door did she raise her face, purse her lips, and sigh helplessly.
He didn't value Jin Rulan's birthday, but she couldn't ignore it. After all, this was the first time she had celebrated her mother-in-law's birthday since marrying into the Xu family, so she had to be careful with the gift.
In the afternoon, she finished writing a script for one episode, sent the document to the producer for final review, and then called Xiang Zhilan to ask if she had time to go shopping with her.
Xiang Zhilan had just finished her prenatal checkup. She glanced at Shen Muzhi sitting down and whispered to him, "I'm going shopping with Sitian."
"Okay." Shen Muzhi opened his wallet and put his black card into her hand. "I'll get off here and have Achao take you there."
Xiang Zhilan didn't refuse him; she put the card into her bag and waved goodbye.
