Actually, there was another possibility that was vaguely emerging in Xiang Zhilan's mind, but she was unwilling to admit it.
In her mind, she always wanted to think the worst about Shen Muzhi; she had lost even the most basic trust in him.
After finishing the meal, Shen Muzhi was to clear the dishes.
Xiang Zhilan snatched the dishcloth from his hand and said, "Go out, seeing you makes me feel bad."
She was being awkward. Shen Muzhi's hands already had so many bandages on them, and she felt she shouldn't let him get wet. But if she said it directly, it would seem like she was concerned about him, and she didn't want him to overthink it or make a fool of himself.
Shen Muzhi looked at Xiang Zhilan with deep eyes. He had never done so much for a woman in his life, but he was always rejected and treated coldly. It would be a lie to say that he was not uncomfortable.
Without saying a word, he turned and walked out.
Xiang Zhilan lowered her head and began washing the dishes. After she finished, she took a small watermelon from the refrigerator and cut it in half.
She habitually held one half of the watermelon and ate it with a spoon, while sealing the other half with plastic wrap to put back and eat it later that evening. Suddenly, she remembered that the pregnancy handbook said that watermelon should be eaten in moderation.
Although it wasn't much bigger than a melon, it still couldn't be eaten in one day. But if it was left until the next day, she wouldn't be able to eat it anymore, and it would be a waste to throw it away.
Xiang Zhilan looked at the half-eaten watermelon covered with plastic wrap and felt that it was still not worth wasting.
So, reluctantly, I carried half a watermelon out of the house, walked to the door across the street, pressed the doorbell, put the watermelon on the ground, and then turned around and walked quickly back to my own door. When I was about to open the door, I realized that I had forgotten to bring my keys!
At this moment, Shen Muzhi opened the door, looked at Xiang Zhilan standing opposite him, and then looked down at the small half of the tender yellow watermelon.
"The extra stuff, instead of throwing it in the trash, I'll just give it to you," Xiang Zhilan said coldly and curtly, not wanting to appear to be making a gesture of goodwill.
Shen Muzhi bent down and picked up half a melon. "Thank you."
Xiang Zhilan turned her head, pretending that she was unlocking the door.
Shen Muzhi carried the melon, went inside, and closed the door.
Hearing the door slam shut behind her, Xiang Zhilan stopped pretending, turned around, and leaned against the door, feeling a bit annoyed. She had actually been locked out just for bringing him a melon; how embarrassing!
She was still wearing slippers and loose loungewear. She checked her pockets but didn't have her phone. There were only twelve yuan in change. It seemed that she would have to take the bus to her parents' house, get her documents, and then call the property management to sort things out.
Xiang Zhilan shook her head helplessly and walked towards the elevator.
At this moment, Shen Muzhi's door suddenly opened again, and he turned his head to face Zhi Lan, their eyes meeting.
She instinctively tried to hide her embarrassment, saying, "I'm going to take out the trash."
Shen Muzhi glanced at her hand and raised an eyebrow slightly.
Xiang Zhilan then realized that she didn't have any trash in her hands, which made her even more embarrassed.
The elevator doors opened, and she quickly stepped inside, eager to escape this awkward situation.
Just as the elevator doors were about to close, a hand reached in and blocked them, then pulled her out of the elevator.
"Shen Muzhi, what are you doing!" Xiang Zhilan twisted her hands and was dragged into the house by Shen Muzhi.
Shen Mu slammed the door shut and released Xiang Zhilan's wrist.
Xiang Zhilan rubbed his wrist, which was sore from being grabbed, and was about to glare at her when he took a pair of pink and blue plaid women's slippers from the shoe cabinet and put them on the ground.
